Smile advice on visiting polunsky please....?

hi
i am planning to visit an inmate at polunsky. he is in seg. i have heard that if i go at the end of the month we would be able to get a few visits into a week(he hasnt had a visit for over a year) would this be true if he is in seg? i am coming from the uk. also, do inmates get any allowance at all for stamps etc?and do they get any free phone calls? polunsky has been in lockdown so mail is taking a while at the moment so it will take time for me to get these questions answered by my pp!! i have also heard that the wardens clerk does not necessarily give out the correct information about visiting, although i will phone up and find out what i can...... and if the unit is lockdown when i visit will i just not get to see him?? thanks in advance for any help with this x

Hi I did time on Polunsky .

Seg and DR convicts get one 5 minute call every 90 days . Their visits are all non contact .

If you travel more than 300 miles you can get up to 2 (two) four hour visits depending on their level 1, 2 3 . See TDCJs site as it changes and call the unit. Policy is subject to change and the warden can do as he or she pleases as far as special visits are concerned . If you are on their visiting list they can have up to 10 ten people on their list . You have to have the Wardens approval for a special visit on all TDCJ Units. I get them as contact visits with one woman and I did time on Polunsky ! Do not let others BS you .

They usually cannot get special v 4 hour visits with the same person more than once a month meaning 30 days not at the end and beginging of a month . TDCJ stopped or limited that on a unit by unit basis due to DR Groupies trying to use all the special 4 hr visits at the end and beginning of a month .

All mail on Polunsky will be slow due to abuse / contraband by in specific DR offenders and DR gruopies or STG s . It is fully read and copied in and out going .

Offenders who have less than $ 10 USD can get 5 (five ) pre stamped envelops a week. This is only for US mail not foreign . They have to ask for this .

They do not get free calls it is collect US only . TDCJ prisners cannot make any over seas calls at all period .

If you call the unit will give as best inforantion they can. Elsewhere many blame TDCJ for some offenders in particular DR convicts behavioral problems and or worse .

Usually you can visit on a lockdown unless the offender has a restriction because they cannot or will not follow this the most basic rules . This is mostly a few DR convicts who have quasi celebrity status and refuse to follow simple rules such as shaving and not having cell phones and now I phones to name a few .

Need Edit , You cannot bring a camera on to any TDCJ unit, it is a TX felony to do so .TDCJ (a boss ) will take photos for $ 3 USD each . Call the Unit as this can change Unit to Unit .

Do not stop and take photos at all near the unit.

You mentioned that the COs can take the photos of the inmate for a fee of US$3? How does this work? Is the inmate supposed to pay using his trust fund account, or are photos only allowed to be taken when there are visits? Thanks, I noticed that some pps use photos that are taken inside.

Photos are only taken during visits. At the unit I visit, the visitor pays for the photos in advance when they enter the facility, and are then given a slip of paper to take into the visitation room. The Officer in charge of visitation notes who will be having photos and then calls up each table one by one during the visit. The photos are a type of polaroid. The inmate is NOT permitted to take the photos back to their cell, the visitor must take them out of the unit.
