I wondered if someone could describe STG a little more for me. One of my pals is in this, but I do not really understand much about what it is, and he is reluctant to say why he is there because he does not feel "safe" to talk about it apparantly.
Is it something people are kept in indefinitely until there is no "threat" or is it a sentence so to speak, they will be there for a certain amount of time 12 mth/ 18mth etc.
I do know that when I first wrote to him the letters would take 8 days, but now take about 4-5. Also his letters are the only ones I receive that have been checked and taped back together on the way out.
I assume they put my name on some kind of safe list after that time? AKA the letters we can scan through because they're probably too mundane for words

Okay. I did my research here. There are three levels of classification for death row inmates. 1, 2 and 3. How ingenious is that haha.

They are not all treated as an STG.Only those who are verified to be with an STG.

Any group of offenders TDCJ reasonably believes poses a threat to the physical safety of other offenders and staff due to the very nature of said Security Threat Group.

TDCJ recognizes 12 Security Threat Groups:

1. Aryan Brotherhood of Texas

2. Aryan Circle

3. Barrio Azteca

4. Bloods

5. Crips

6. Hermanos De Pistoleros Latinos

7. Mexican Mafia

8. Partido Revolucionario Mexicanos

9. Raza Unida

10. Texas Chicano Brotherhood

11. Texas Mafia

12. Texas Syndicate

Once an offender is classified as a member or participant in an STG they are 'verified' and then placed on administrative segregation. If they are death row, their classification drops.

If your pal is in a STG then he is a verified gang member, which would explain why he is reluctant to talk about it through the mail, as they do go through his mail with a fine tooth comb.

If he is going through the GRAD program he will experience a massive delay in mail as they go through each and every piece of mail while they are in this program.

STG in TDCJ terms means Security Threat Group . Though it primarily means a confirmed gang member , It can also mean a person who is known to bring in a lot of contraband , a escape artist or over all trouble maker .
They can hold a them as long as they wish .Some have paroled out of Ad Seg !
The STG boss will read all their mail so it takes longer add a holiday as mail room staff work Mon - Fri .So a STG boss might not get it for a few days .

It is not a sentence usually but a "administrative" decision to place them in seg. Some come up for review every six months stay done in seg for a long time . Usually you get in seg because of what you do inside not outside but in some cases you go into seg right way a cop , sex offender , known gang member anyone who "checks in " can go right to seg and stay for a longtime some never leave

If someone is a verified gang member, they are generally put on seg for an undetermined amount of time. This typically means until they step out of the gang or get released.

Are your details recorded by the prison officials? Obviously mail is searched, but do they record your name and address for their records?

How long generally does it take for mail to be given out and returned mail sent? Is there much of a delay!

Thankyou
i don't know but i would like to know to!
