A British grandmother on death row in the US has sent out an appeal for help from a plinth in Trafalgar Square.

Linda Carty, 50, was sentenced to death in 2002 for her part in the abduction and murder of a 25-year-old woman after a trial campaigners say was "catastrophically flawed".
She became the latest person to "appear" on the London monument as part of the long-running Antony Gormley One & Other Exhibition.
A life-size cardboard cut-out of the death row prisoner stood on the platform and a recorded message from Carty was played calling on the British public and Government to intervene to help save her from the lethal injection.
In the message, Carty said: "I'm sorry if I sound like a desperate woman. I am desperate, because the British people may be my last hope. If they ask for my life to be spared, maybe Texas will listen."
Carty has always maintained her innocence, but with her appeal now in its later stages, her execution could be just months away, supporters fear.

Two years ago, Linda Carty was sentenced to death for her part in the kidnap and murder of a young woman. But British lawyers believe her conviction is unsafe and are mounting an appeal. Alex Hannaford talks to her on death row Forty miles north-west of Waco, somewhere between the two large Texas cities of Dallas and Austin, Highway 36 gets lost in the scenic hill country. There's the occasional Baptist church, a company selling "new and used trailer homes", and miles upon miles of fenced-off ranch land. The road eventually passes directly through Fort Hood, the biggest military base in the US and home to the largest troop of soldiers currently serving in Iraq. Soon afterwards you suddenly find yourself surrounded by high barbed-wire fences and watchtowers. Signs at the side of the road announce your arrival at the Dr Lane Murray Unit, the Hughes Unit and the Woodman Unit - three large penal establishments. [i] have been following this case for some years now and know that the UK Embassy staff (legal) have been in close contact with this lady and her case. However part of the difficulty has been that she was not informed of her right to diplomatic counsel (are they ever in the US), also the DEA have always denied access to the agents Ms Carty worked with and for.

I do hope that more British people will write to the White House on her behalf and also to stop the Death Penalty in all cases as being cruel and an abuse of human rights.

I have no idea this womens guilt or innocence as to being involved" in a murder.
I do believe she does not belong on DR. She herself did not kill anyone physically.

As far as a DP in the US that is a choice the citizens of the US need to decide. I personally feel it should be only for those who are found to be serial killers, or terrorist, rare exceptions to keeping the DP in tact.

This human rights stuff for me has gone way over the line, speaking of human rights no one mentions the human right to live, was taken thru a criminal act, so what is the right price to pay for a human who decides many innocents have no right to live?

I am speaking of mass murders here terrorist, serial killers

When it says Linda Carty is British, she was not born in the UK. She was born on the Caribbean island of St Kitts, which was a British colony at the time. It became independent in 1983, but it still part of the Commonwealth.

Her case is another that falls under the Law of Parties and is based on the testimony of her "accomplices".

On the news last night they say she lost this appeal, and will be executed early next year. They claimed to many facts to her guilt

I truely believe this women does not belong on DR though.
