Texas governor accused of covering up innocent man’s execution

The head of a Texas anti-death penalty group has accused that state's governor of scuttling an investigation into a possible wrongful execution for political reasons.

"[Texas Governor Rick] Perry saw the writing on the wall," Scott Cobb, president of the Texas Moratorium Network, told CNN. "He moved to cover that up."

The "writing on the wall" Cobb was referring to was the investigation by the Texas Forensic Science Commission into the execution of Cameron Todd Willingham, who was put to death in 2004 for the 1991 arson deaths of his three daughters.

I just saw this on the news yesterday, Gov Rick Perry was squirming.

This is all, at the very least, quite fishy. It's also potentially earth-shaking -- never before has it been conclusively determined that someone in this country was wrongfully put to death. If Cameron Todd Willingham's innocence can be proven, it would upend the entire rationale behind our system of capital punishment. And yet there hasn't been a whole lot of media coverage - a Nexis search of all news sources for the past two days for (cameron w/2 willingham and perry) turned up seven results.

This could be the beginning of the end for not only one of the most reactionary governors in the country but for the death penalty itself.

Not sure in serious cases where guilt is definitley clear crime heinous with many deaths, but it sure will force these courts to be more accountable to giving out a DP.
Not to mention some of our crazy laws, where one should not even be considered for the DP at all, think most all know which laws those are.

this shows how many innocent people are getting executed when knowing they din't commited the crime acussed of.
