Default The Supreme court rules on the Lethal Injection....

Not good news

ABC News: Supreme Court Allows Execution by Lethal Injection

Supreme Court Allows Execution by Lethal Injection
Executions Had Been on Hold Nationwide While Justices Considered Case
Apr 16, 2008

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected a challenge to the lethal three-drug ****tail used in most U.S. executions during the past 30 years.

By a 7-2 vote, the high court rejected a challenge by two Kentucky death row inmates who argued the current lethal injection method violated the constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment by inflicting needless pain and suffering.

Currently Only Karl Chamberlain had a date and would have been executed this past February. He is supposed to have new date in May. I am sure they will have a few more .not only in TX all southern states are gearing up their death chambers.
The Supreme Court has embarrassed the US .If we are to execute we should do it as humanely as possible We do it for pets and some doctors do prescribe what amounts to a lethal does in some fashion for patients who are terminally ill and suffering they do not use any of the three drugs to either euthanise (SP) pet or let a suffering terminally ill person drift of in dignity

I worked in an emergency vet clinic for a spell while I was in college and of course, saw some horrible things and had to assist the vets and eventually perform euthanasia myself after I was taught how to do it. Pets are almost always euthanized via intravenous injection, typically a very high dose of a barbiturate such as pentobarbital. It went smoothly and the animals slipped away comfortably. When I say "almost" I’m only referring to the sound of air exhaling out of the lungs. You hear that more with larger dogs. So all the pets went with no pain and I would always hold them if the owner was not there so they were not alone.

Now why don’t humans go like this? What are they doing differently? What is the ****tail used for humans exactly and how does it differ?

Asha I have no idea why if we are going have exectutions why we do not do the same thing . Not that I want executions . That would do the job and it is peacful add the Moprhine or more potent opaite like Diluadid or fentanyl and it is a very peacful death .

Thanks Smiley. It seems I have read that before but probably just didn’t remember. It looks familiar. So I guess the sodium thiopental to induce anesthesia is where it differs considerably from animals. I’m not sure I like that plan at all. What if they don’t give enough of that (after all, it’s only a condemned prisoner) so then there is no way to know what they are feeling. It might be akin to surgery with no anesthesia where they are aware but unable to physically move due to the paralyzing effects of the muscle relaxers.

I like ASE's idea of administering the fentanyl. Jesus that stuff is like 80 times more potent than morphine...weeee!

I have a question how does anyone know lethal injection is cruel and unusual if all these people die as a result is it simply an assumption?
