There was a case, similar to this, out in Oregon, where a 400 lb inmate was protesting that his execution by hanging (he was given a choice) was cruel and inhuman, because it would rip his head off. One of the best solutions, that I heard, came on a radio talk show where someone called in and suggested that they put the rope around his neck and stand him on blocks of ice.
