Is there a link to SO, second least likely to re-offend?

Also Whos the first group most likely not to re-offend? Those who commited a murder?
If so, one murder? Do you have a link to that. Like to see if the manner of the murder or number of how many murders would be considered to not likely re-offend if released.

Granted it is old data now, but I doubt that the overall figures have changed greatly. The study was carried out by the US Bureau of Justice Statistics and called "Recidivism of Sex Offenders released from Prison in 1994".

The following is from a blog, Committee for Skeptical Inquiry

"According to a U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics study (“Recidivism of Sex Offenders Released from Prison in 1994”), just five percent of sex offenders followed for three years after their release from prison in 1994 were arrested for another sex crime. A study released in 2003 by the Bureau of Justice Statistics found that within three years, 3.3 percent of the released child molesters were arrested again for committing another sex crime against a child. Three to five percent is hardly a high repeat offender rate.

In the largest and most comprehensive study ever done of prison recidivism, the Justice Department found that sex offenders were in fact less likely to reoffend than other criminals. The 2003 study of nearly 10,000 men convicted of rape, sexual assault, and child molestation found that sex offenders had a re-arrest rate 25 percent lower than for all other criminals. Part of the reason is that serial sex offenders—those who pose the greatest threat—rarely get released from prison, and the ones who do are unlikely to re-offend. If released sex offenders are in fact no more likely to re-offend than murderers or armed robbers, there seems little justification for the public’s fear and the monitoring laws targeting them. (Studies also suggest that sex offenders living near schools or playgrounds are no more likely to commit a sex crime than those living elsewhere.)

While the abduction, rape, and killing of children by strangers is very, very rare, such incidents receive a lot of media coverage, leading the public to overestimate how common these cases are. (See John Ruscio’s article “Risky Business: Vividness, Availability, and the Media Paradox” in the March/April 2000 Skeptical Inquirer.)"

As for murderers, a good article citing DoJ figures for inmates in California in 2002 is here at Senator George Runner's blog.

"Consistent with other state and federal studies prisoners released following incarceration for murder were least likely to be charged with new crimes (40.7%) while prisoners released following a sentence for vehicle theft were most likely to be charged with new crimes (78.8%) within three years."

Some Skinners /chi mos one guy in WA stae for example should never ever see the light of day . Those who rape and kill should do LWOP in very austere no human contact conditions seg like it is called punishment .For thier rsick heinous crimes . This is not about rehabilitation but a life time of severe punishment for ruining and ending children 's lives

It is true SOs a very broad category are on the low end of recidivism. This is not true for sadistic sexual predators they never stop . Such as a lifer in WA State . Who raped and kiled afew kids he shold nver get any human contact atall he isa very evil monster .

There needs to be categories of SOs not just a blanket category. The Guy in WA state is a predatory sick deranged, monster pure evil . He should be on no human contact no visits, no TV, no calls etc . He earned it for what he did to those poor innocent kids , he is a evil sick monster .

Sex Offender is too broad of a category and should be changed so sadistic sexual predators such as the monster in WA state I am thinking of can be held to a different standard than the 18- early 1 20s young adult who has sex with 15 year old or other one time offenders . Very differnt both illegal but very differnt

Murder has the lowest rate of recidivism over all . Women who commit murder are least likely to re offed ,violent offenders over all have a lower recidivism rate with the exception of serial killers ( if one ever got out that is ) gang members and sexual predators .

A few go on to kill again almost always gang related .

While much talk is of the EXTREME offenses and offenders many more sit behind bars like members here once did that have served time and have come back into society and do their very best to secure their freedom and live an obscure life. Please let us not forget about those men and women who have worked hard at earning and keeping their freedom. Like was said those that have committed murder have the lowest rate of recidivism, so not all are "monsters."

Thank You both, sunray and smiley for the information links. Interesting and a bit telling on the SO title itself.

I agree ASE with your comments. .

Smiley, sure many would agree not "all" are Monsters, yet a few ASE has brought up in past posting would qualify for the title.

Just checked that out myself as i rarely look over ads now, and no there are NO listings for females on the row on WAP, so you did not look wrong Avacado, but no doubt you would find them on other sites if that is your intention to write them, or maybe you could check out some lifers profiles?
