Re: Dying the hard way? Firing squads and hanging still legal in some states Well that’s true, but given Wolf's post, nearly all of these methods are not fool proof in any way shape or form. It seems to me the bullet into the brain is the least complicated and requires fewer mechanisms to perform correctly and there is only really the problem of human error. I would hope whoever the executioner was would have an extra bullet in the chamber to act as a back up in the event something did not penetrate or nerves were not properly severed. But IDEALLY I hope none of us EVER need to make an actual choice like this. Gosh!
