To me it actually goes beyond being a pro or anti anything.... it is a simple lack of compassion for human life.

When an individual is sentenced for their crimes that sentences does not include cruel and unusual punishment.

It is not discounting what they have done to land themselves in prison at all.

I would hate to be on the receiving end of that karma if I were the one denying a human life medical attention.

I won't go into all of this~as that seems off topic to what this thread is about. The fact that this man is not being treated properly, as with anyone who is mistreated, is not acceptable.

Side note, someone mentioned some hospitals are closing their doors because of illegal immigrants who don't pay their bills. 100% inaccurate. It's true low income americans don't pay their bill, which drives the care of healthcare up. ER's are the least effective and most expenisve form of healthcare. They are not designed to be a doctors office, but rather treat life threatining emergencys. However, when illegal immigrants use the hospitals it typically is just that, a life threatining emergency. They go to extremes to not call attention to themselves or their family. They do not tend to "overuse" ER's.
Number we are close to agreeing again ! You are right about ERs it is not illegals actually the legal term is undocumented immigrant . What many of our ancestors who came here would be called today ! Illegal alien is term coined by hate radio loudmouths . They do not use the ER unless it is a emergency ironically .

If any one thinks they do not pay for those who cannot think again . those 10 dollar aspirins and bandages and other highly inflated prices on the bill pay fo therm and you pay via a higher premium that comes out of your check every payday . I am sure Number can explain better than I can as it is part of her job .

In some states it has become illegal for a hospital to take a low income person to court . In not for profit hospital which is what mos tare they do have services that provide "free" care to some low income people who qualify .The requirements are usually very strict .

Interestingly when those who oppose any sort of government program say that it would drive private insures out of business They are saying that the current system does not work and is too expensive .

Part of the reason many European nations and Canada are having less economic problems is that they do not have employer bases health care making them more competitive ! That little fact is often forgotten or deliberately left out .

Once again if we incarcerate a person we are responsible for thier health care and other necessities to live . Another reason to look at alternative forms of "punishment " and decriminalizing or legalizing drugs seeing most crime directly or indirectly involves illegal drugs . We cant have that though less c rime that would be bad fro those who make a living of of human misery and using prison as a warehouse for all the "undesirables. "

If we did have better access to health care many of thecuases of crime would be detacted and dealt with most prisoners havesome learoing disability Dyslexia being 30 % higher prison male or female .

A few years old but still very relevant

Grits for Breakfast: Search results for dyslexia

Then there is child hood abuse that a medical professional can both discover and report as they are required to . That might reduce crime and be less expensive overall . Yes child hood abuse and neglect is directly correlated to being incarcerated .

The not so subtle racism and intolerance and outright falsehoods from a few posters is not only obvious but is offensive. As is the idea that it is accpetabel to mistreat and abuse other humans . How hard is it to grasp that the punishment is being locked up not being brutalized ?

Does any one honestly think that a person who has been abused in prison is going to come outa safe productive citizen unless they are very fortunate get lots of support and help? Obviously it does not prevent anything .

Would you want to deal with some one who has been abused and degraded or has not received proper mental or physical health care who has just been released as 90 some odd percent of all prisoners will be and most in less than 10 years ?

I know first hand . what it is like and the struggles you face for the rest of your life . Thanks so much "tuff on crime nuts " . I hope one day a few of you do time in a place like a rock and roll TDCJ unit maybe then it will sink in . Nothing else seems to get through to you .

Skye I agree 100% it is a lack of compassion and the dehumanizing of any one incarcerated as monsters . Once a group of humans is seen as less than human it becomes easy to abuse them . As seen thought history .

The Holocaust ( I am sure one or two "pros" will "deny" it) was a direct result of dehumanizing a entire group of humans . The same thing is going on with our prisners today and yes some of the things we saw on the news about our prisons in Iraq are nothing new to meI saw many of them go on right here in the USA !

ASE, true the low income do have free care and some states do not take the low income to court. Not out of anything but, they have nothing to begin with to take. Cost of court would be yet another expense they would absorb, so not out of the kindness of the heart.

But, if someone as my scenario post, has a heart attack, they will go after you, and take everytihing they can..................the not low income, but the health bill is so expensive it is unreachable. If file bankrupt that cost us all too............ thing also for the not low income, that patient is also out of work and not making tha tbig money for sometime to pay it...if the patient dies, the spouse it threaten to have a lein on the home or pay now on one income, while so devasted already over the personal loss.

Why would this way of thinking money" before the human on health care, be any different for the criminal if they dont care about one another in the free world???l .
Some can sit in their safe little comfort zone they have their health right now, and insurance right now, so heck with the others, criminal or not????

The mentality has to change actually, before we can make any system, thru any source work..............regardng human life and rights for all on this topic, no matter what their addy crime or no crime.......

Peanut Thatis true and why many lower income people who by the way do work and usualy very hard . Do not go to a doctor or a ER untill they have reached the pount where thy need very expansive care

The problem is tere isa "i have mine F You menatlity ampong a lot of poe anas wel as blatnat racism . That was displayed by blaming undocumented imagrants fro all of our problesm . AH new scapgoat .

The sad fact is some here do not value all of us eaually . Some seem to think they are more derserving and others should just suffer .
So the whining wealthy can have anther billion .

Ironic how people will willing advocate against thier own self interstwhen a biti of racism is thown in as in those "evil Hispanics " are getting soemthing for freeandyou ggod "real Amwrica are paying for it .

It does not matter if they are in prison or not . Having acess to health care edcuation are part of a stable and safer society . Untill more people recognize that as Andreas said all of society has a resposiblity to each other . We are doomed to repete this over and over . The whole "rugged indivual" is a myth . Unless we want to live as they did one hundered or mere years in the past . It was by no means the good old days . Life was very difficult unless you were wealthy . NO this is not socilaism then who pays for things like roads, schools, airports, cops EMTs and of course prisons to mention a few things we all take for granted ?

Changing this menatliy is not easy thpugh it is appening I think radical right knows they are a failed relic of the past and will not go away with out one last gaspand frezy of hate . They will eventualy be sen as one of the worst parts of US history.

Thereīs absolutely no doubt about these words and maybe we can be proud to live in such societies.
ASE, you are right, the sense of an imprisonment is to be isolated from the rest of the free world, not to be tortured or mistreated. Itīs hard enough, i guess.
