| Hi titityty, First of all, I wish to welcome you to WAP. I can't be of much help, in regards to the Death Penalty, but, hopefully, someone will come along who can give you some general information. Basically, it usually takes a long time before someone is executed, as they go through a lengthy series of appeals. But, as far as specifics, I can't help you. Have you tried looking on the Georgia Department of Corrections website? I think that they sometimes have some information there. Other than that, perhaps you can do a search for "Georgia Death Penalty", or some variation of that. You never know what you might come up with. Good luck in your search, and Happy Writing with your pen pal.

| A lot depends on when they were convicted . Prior to 1996 when Anti -terrosism and Effective Death Penalty Act ( AEDPA ) became law they had a lot more appeals and writs available . Though despite AEDPA a person can spend many years on DR and be granted many stays . It can depend on which court grants a stay or appeal and on what grounds . State courts vary a lot , elected judges tend to side with the state more than appointed judges .Though the Judges appointed by W are among the least qualified and most politicized and pro prosecution when it comes to eviscerating our civil rights . Geographical location maters also each federal court and district differs in how it handles cases . The fifth TX is part of the Fifth district . Being the most pro prosecution others seem to vary from case to case GA is part of the eleventh distinct. It is a lot more cautious when handling criminal cases than the fifth district which routinely uses mental gymnastics an convloited logic to find ways to deny a person their rights . Very few cases of any osrt are heard by the US Supreme Court approximately 5 % of cases sent to the court get heard . A lot depends on the ideology of the judge who is assigned that case to se if it should be heard . The average time for those condemned after 1996 on DR is ten years . Some sentenced prior to 1996 have spent 20 or more years on DR . You can find a lot of information here Death Penalty Information Center Not DP specific but a lot of exonerees were on DR . You can read about them and how they ended up getting convicted and sentenced to death for something they did not do that has to be horrific . The Innocence Project - Home

| Hi titityty, I've had Death Row pen pals in different states, but not in Georgia. Yes, the appeals process can take a very long time. One of my pps has been on Death Row in California since 1983! ASE gave you great information. If you need anything else, I'll be happy to try to find it for you, though I'm not in the US either. |

| Do a search for Canadians Against the Death Penalty. They are well organized and have alot of information. And of course most of the people and problems they write about are in the USA. Another good search is for Sister Helen Prejean she is one of the leading lights on the death penalty and has highly regarded books translated into to different languages. She is very busy going every where all the time to bring the important issue to the public. There are also vicious psychos on the net with websites who celebrate tormenting people on Death Row, they are often blood thirsty ghouls themselves in my humble opinion. |
