If you live in the US and are writing to American prisoners, than absolutely you should use a PO Box. Your address and any personal information you give to that inmate can be bought/sold or traded. All it takes is a letter, phone call or visit and you are no longer secure. This is realistic advice.

I use my home address......mainly because 1 is on death row, 1 is a "lifer" & the 2 that will eventually get out I wouldn't mind them showing up on my doorstep at all. One is an old female aquaintance of mine from years ago & the other girl lives at the bottom of my continent & would hardly be able to just show up, I highly doubt anyway. Even if she did - I would be glad to see her!!!!

My Mood: | | Re: Do ya'll use your home address or a P.O. Box? This is a bit off topic, but does anyone know if mail with a different name will still be delivered to the same PO Box? My brother wanted to have a few things sent to me and then have me mail them overseas to him (postage is cheaper if I mail them on that way)- if he has them address the packages to him though (he has a different last name) will the Post Office still put them in my box without him being on file? |

My Mood: | | Re: Do ya'll use your home address or a P.O. Box? You might be able to talk to the post office where you have your box so they can make a note of it. It shouldnt be a problem since it will have the same last name and be addressed to your box. They would probably put it in there anyway but I would make sure they understand so nothing gets returned.

My Mood: | | Re: Do ya'll use your home address or a P.O. Box? Sorry i meant different last name, thats why it might be important to talk with them at the desk so they dont refuse it. Ive been able to get them to accept this and that as long as I let them know ahead of time.

I posted this hoping I'd get a bunch of reassuring replies saying I'm not in kind of danger. But you just scared the **** out of me. |

My Mood: | | Re: Do ya'll use your home address or a P.O. Box? Dont worry about it. It would only be a problem if the guy was crazy or something or you got into an argument and he was resentful. I just always like to remind people that it isnt only the inmate they are dealing with. Its anyone that inmate knows or can contact with your information.

I use my P.O box, as somebody said, you can pay for 6 months and see what happen, after all, if you are insecure about sticking with PP, maybe is not a good idea to give your home address to somebody you dont know, in my particular case, I only pay $20 every 6 months. I feel really comfortable with my privacy, I'm the only one having access to my personal mail and in the other way, I dont have to give mt personal info. |
