Default Supreme Court to Examine Life in Prison for Juveniles

The Supreme Court is being asked to say that locking up juveniles and throwing away the key is cruel and unusual -- and thus, unconstitutional.

Thanks for the link, showyourpride. I agree with the Supreme Court in deciding to label the life-sentences of children as cruel and unusual and unconstitutional. Don't juvenile offenders deserve a chance to reenter society and learn from their mistakes? I think so.

It's so weird for us Europeans, I mean, at least me about the life sentences, because in my country when someeone is sentenced "for life", it cannot exceed 30 years, no matter what you've done and most of the time they get a minimum 22 years to be served out of the Life sentence. And if it's their first sentence, they get out earlier. And if they're old and sick, they also get out. You don't spend a lifetime in prison.

And Juveniles in France (under 18) can only get sentenced to half of the time an adult would be condemned. So yes, for us life sentences are considered cruel punishment.

But it's our culture, and the American culture is different, hence different laws. At least, with the great WAP forum we know what's going on and the Supreme Court decisions. Thank you for letting us know !

I always loved Europe, maybe I will move one day. I still have family in Scotland and Spain.
Got to brush up on my Spanish...

I think sometime life should mean exactly that for some crimes and its a shame Europe allow so many out after just a short time.

I agree.
With Europe though, what is the record of those who are sentenced to short time inside, for their making it or going back for another offense? Or doing another heinous crime? I never hear any talk or read anything on that? Any stats?
