Default Obamacare

Not going to say if I am for or against Obamacare, I can see both sides of the issue and I believe there will always be Dr's/Hospitals that will be "private" that will not become part of a Govt program whether it be a take over or some time of public option.

My question, I am not a lawyer and was "married" to a Dr for almost 20 years. Just wanted to be upfront. My x pays malpractice premiums that could feed, clothe, house, etc a family of 4 for a year. How can we hope to reform the medical system if we do not limit the ammount of money that can be awarded to someone in a malpractice suit?

From what I understand there is no type of tort reform being discussed by Washington.

It is not only malpractice law suits that get the big bucks, it is SERIOUSLY CRAZY the amount of damages/money awarded to some people many times you are not talking tens of thousands, but MILLIONS.

On one hand one can be awarded 2.9 million for a hot coffee spill at McDonalds, while another George Rodriguez spends 17 years in prison due to the FALSE evidence secured his conviction and this guy gets a pissy 5 million, missing out on his girls growing up etc, etc. Go figure. What ever the case, the compensation plan is extreme and should be capped in ALL facets, injury, disability etc.

The legal system in this country is out of control. IMHO, all this nonsense started when they allowed lawyers to advertise on TV. Everyone wants money for nothing. We recently had someone sue the city because he was stopped at a DWI checkpoint. Give me a break!

Sadly, it is often the attorneys who get the lion's share of those big awards, while the injured party has to scrimp, just to survive. Especially when they have to wait years and years to collect anything. That would be a long time to wait, while you are hopping around on one diseased leg because some doctor cut the wrong one off.

It's a little bit funny, but most people no matter what
Country they live in think we have the best Health Care
in the World.
But who truly knows until a person travels around our
World will we find out.

Theother i think that is true, until you live and travel a little you may not know nor have an appreciation for different cultures and many aspects of the societies in which we live. Health care being one.

I believe our heathcare needs some patching for sure. Yet, on the other hand, there have always been safety nets in many areas for those with low incomes or no insurance coverage at all. Problem seems to have been with lack of information to the people who need it.

The other is there is definately a problem with the medications cost, for the poor or retired on fixed incomes and even for those who are covered. That to me is the biggest concern that is way out of hand.

I agree P'nut. I have the best medical insurance my x husband can buy (per our legal agreement) and I have a few crazy co pays for meds.
I have one that is $100 deducatable, that God I only get it every 4 months.
At least I have a zero deductable or Dr or Specialist visits.

I have heard there is talks on caps on mal practice suits. There are good valid cases' such as; one man after surgery they found they had stitched him up and left a surgical tool inside. Or the stories of did surgery on the wrong side of a limb or other.

It is the BS claims we all recognize and the overly large amts to win is insane. Caps are needed then doctors and hosptals would have more money to pay qualified nurses registered as such.
