To maintain our difficult past in mind is not wrong. No-one has to fear us and the way we ´ve gone in the last decades was positive, we live in peace and friendship with all of our neighbours. That´s the simple and most important truth and that´s we can be proud for. And we are.
The only-one thing of us what other nations have to fear, is our soccer team.

Andreas i always like the pics you share and am grateful you take the time to do it for all. I was fortunate enough to catch this on the news here as it was no doubt a great celebration of life.

Uk i understand what you mean when you question such celebrations, sometimes it does feel like people would rather forget about what took place with the Jew's and others who lost their life during that time, especially when you get groups and individuals advocating it was all a lie and much was falsified. Although i know many programs, museums and building exist so we will never forget.

Thx smiley, it really was a great event despite Nov. 9th was no official holiday and the weather was heavily rainy. Gordon Brown, Nicholas Sarkozy, Hillary Clinton, Nikolai Medvedev and obviously Chancellor Merkel spoke at the Gate to our people. It was very touching when the foreign leaders used some german words in their speeches. The leaders of all 27 EU member countries were there. After the official part was the Fest der Freiheit (fest of freedom) started and among a lot of other artist has Jon Bon Jovi rocked the Gate.
