UKGAL guess it's a wrong headline "historical day" maybe 20th anniversary day would sound better.
But at least the germans also have honored the people who has lost their life in concentration camps,but it wasn't a headline like that anniversary.

well the Jews that died should of been headline news, the germans that died because they wanted to be the other dam side of a wall had a CHOICE. the Jews didnt and to have celebrations of any kind i believe to be disgusting.

that anniversary wasn't because of the people who has lost their life because of the wall,it was the anniversary of living without that wall for 20 years now.

Just tried to explain the anniversary.

UKGAL, to satisfy you, our head of state, the federal president has honoured all the Nazi victims in his speech before the entire guests of state in Bellevue Castle. Chancellor Merkel did the same, so you can believe, those victims are not forgotten. The fall of the wall makes the bigger headline only this year, because it´s the 20th anniversary.
The term historical is a right one because we had a third historical event on this day in Germany, it was the proclaiming of the first german republic by Philipp Scheidemann, long before the pogrom night.

UKGAL my grandma is german my parents left germany before I was born still having relatives over there so that's why I know alot about germany.

To explain the situation:

You are right, the Nazis did disgusting things with all their enemies, especially the jews, keyword: Endlösung. The safety of the jewish population is part of our reasons of state. The jewish population has a strong community here, in Berlin and elsewhere in Germany. The central council of jews in Germany has attentive eyes to observe what´s going on in our society. And they alert whenever they see any kind of societal minus development. They have a tremendous influence to what our government does or leaves. To forgot them on that important day - it would be much more than a fauxpas, that´s why it will not happen. Otherwise would i guess that it wouldn´t be possible to invite so much leaders from all over the world. They all celebrated this day with no bad conscience. In Paris, Brussels, Los Angeles, Sofia and several other cities did the people also celebrate the fall of the wall.
