Today celebrates Germany its national day, the Day of German Unity. The central ceremonial act of the federal government has been proceeding in Saarbrücken this year. It has been started with a religious service in Saarbrückens Ludwigskirche.


The whole government was there and of course the federal chancellor.

What would Berlin be without having something special ? Obviously do we have. We invited the french street artists group "Compagnie Royal de Luxe" to deliver a spectacle of particular kind. They operate huge marionettes and with those puppets they perform a story.


What you see is the shoe of a 15m high puppet called "The Uncle".

The second puppet is this little girl, sleeping last night in front of the Berlin Cathedral.

The story they tell is easy to explain: The Uncle and the little girl became separated and that´s why they run for several days through the town, searching each other. Symbolically on the Day of the German Unity they will find each other and it´s obviously in Berlins middle, at the Brandenburg Gate.

I am a big fan of Angela Merkel, she seems much more approachable than most American leaders- she is probably the most powerful woman in the world.

Not getting into politics but I was glad to hear she was re elected.
