Cool New to WAP and looking for answers

Hello, forum!

I have recently become fascinated with the criminal justice system, mainly through investigative journalism and crime documentaries. Unfortunately, almost all of the media pertaining to criminal justice is written from either the prosecutions point-of-view or from the victims accounts of events. Rarely have I seen or heard stories that are born from the experience of the accused.

Also, my curiosity to learn more about my own dark-side is an impetus to my search for qualitative data from the prisoners themselves. I live in Florida and I am appalled and disgusted to hear that the Florida Department of Corrections has banned WAP mail to its prisoners. How do we expect the inmates to fit into a society that refuses to communicate with them? This letter-ban is cruel punishment and needs to be repealed.

This is my first time doing anything like this. Besides my curiosity and the apparent lack of prisoner p.o.v.'s, I hope to bring some fresh air, sunshine, and hope to a human being that is suffering from a previous act committed in poor judgement.

Thank you for reading my post and I hope to hear from as many people as possible.

G'day Job, sounds like you will no doubt be motivated to learn much and with that i hope have the ability to change a few lives starting with the pen. Maybe even help educate some on the outside about core truths of life behind bars given time and those incarcerated. So much talk goes on those committing the crime, but very little of the societies in which they live, and what that tells us.

Maybe it is me, but i don't think enough people want to believe or be educated on the role society plays in what we are seeing today, thinking it is the "individuals choice" when in part it is made up of many factors and choices that see a person serving time.

Wish you a great friend through the pen and hope they also find that in you.

Welcome to WAP JOE !

Thank you - I also became very interested by the criminal justice system when I was a student and that's how I found out about the American judicial system and eventually the inmates lifestyle.

And eventually a pp to a couple of inmates - and back where I live, I'm on way to be come a legal advisor for foreign inmates, so I'll be able to actually go inside.

to WAP.
I have found the best freinds from Florida institutions, and yes it was sad when no one would be listed in any pp organization. It is till posible to share connections in the body of a letter. I cuurently write five florida institutions and what amazes me is how often tehy get the priveledge of transfering! I believe writing is an adventure regardless of the low points, writing inmates has kept me sober and sane. This is a very wise & experienced group and I hope you enjoy your adventure.

Welcome Jobeltran!

Florida representing here. Originally from NY. I currently write to one guy in a Federal Prison here in FL - guess the feds don't have the same issues.

I think you will find your experiences VERY interesting. I have definitely enjoyed my journey thus far.

I'm in the Tampa area. Where in FL are you?

what are the reasons behind not letting inmates receive pp mail? I don't see the harm in someone receiving letters and making new friends.
