Hello. I am a woman around 30 years old. I have never been in prison and I have no criminal record. However I have some penpals/ friends in prison currently. I have an extremely narrow area of special interest. I discuss about that only privately.

you can usually look up info online, or govt prison sites, but they will only give you the basic information

There is a wonderful book you might pick up, written by female inmates.

"Couldn't Keep it to Myself: Testimonies from Our Imprisoned Sisters"

For several years, Wally Lamb taught writing skills to inmates at the York Correctional Facility, a women's prison in Niantic, Connecticut. The book contains personal stories written by the inmates dealing with their lives. Most were sexually, physically, or mentally abused, and came from impoverished backgrounds.

A very raw and intimate book, 12 short stories written by these women. A worthy read if you're interested in female inmates. There is also a followup that I have yet to read but want to.

I am convinced that 95 % or even more of female convicts are in prison because of some bad guy or guys.
