| I have some questions....... -Do all prison give out mail only on the 4th and the 20th of each month? -How do you think inmates react to receiving mail from a pen pal whom is new to them? -How about just the simple fact of hearing their name on mail call? -Do you think inmates become possessive and protective over their pen pal mail? Just the questions that i kinda wonder about, and i can't seem to find the answers by trying to reserach them on the web, so i figured it's no better people to ask then you all. All answers are greatly appreciated! |

| If/when they have posted an add they are probably as excited and curious as we are to get mail from new people. I have heard that getting mail and having their name called out at mail call gets them respect/admiration/jealousy and good natured ribbing from other inmates when there is a lot of mail. I also heard staff will treat an inmate better when they get mail because then they can see there is someone on the outside who cares what is going on with their freind in prison.!! Maybe an aspect of pps few have even thought about! Some become possesive and protective others don't. All depends on the individual and the relationship with the pp. |

| Mail call is important, as I had someone ill from food poisoning in Florida and I sent 25 get well cards in September, it helps when someone cares. I am in a same gender relationship as I 'married" one of the inmates I wrote. Everyone knows up front that I write only 1 inmate per institution and I write for friendship. Those that think they can make me write only them do not last very long. |

| -Do all prison give out mail only on the 4th and the 20th of each month? WAP sends out the emails on those days. The prisons give out mail Mon - Fri. So unless the 4th and 20th are weekends or Holidays the offenders receive mail on those days, as well as the other days in the week. The only exceptions to inmates not receiving mail are the weekends and holidays. -How do you think inmates react to receiving mail from a pen pal whom is new to them? They LOVE receiving mail. So many behind bars don't have anyone at all, no friends, no family, so one letter to them is like a brick of gold. It is their connection to the outside world. Mail call is an important thing to an inmate, receiving mail, even from a stranger is a big thing. -How about just the simple fact of hearing their name on mail call? They get excited. At mail call when they call their name they get excited and happy that someone has thought of them. The flip side is that those who have nobody at all have the reverse feeling. -Do you think inmates become possessive and protective over their pen pal mail? Yes. Which is why it is best not to write two inmates in the same unit.
