| Hello everybody, I am writing to you from TwoFour, a British television production house who are currently developing a series of documentaries about the wives and girlfriends of various groups of men. One episode of the this proposed series focuses on what it is like to the wife or girlfriend of a man convicted of murder. I'm looking for women who would be willing to talk about their lives and relationships, whether they met their partner before prison or like many of you on this site are writing to prisoners through a pen pal system. Do not worry, if commissioned this series would not set out to portray you negatively or sensationalise your story. We would want to hear your story and your experiences in your own words. If your at all interested or would like to ask me any questions feel free to PM me with an email address and I'll get in touch. Thanks, Kit Simpson |

| Hi Kit, interesting would also be a documentary on the effects of a "Globalisation" in Penalsystems. If the countries of this world primarily keep pushing for globalisation - What system do they plan to use as a "standard" of Prisonsystem? THE ONE IN THE USA? ...lol... So inorder for people to see the vast differences in Prison systems and the effects on its people a Production agency has to be daring enough to use their media influence to make a doc on it. Looking at every justice systems in the world, which one "helps its people" more.

| I don’t know. If I had to go to prison, I would MUCH rather it was one in the US. Though we might be quick to confine or offer extreme sentences in some cases, the standard of living here as compared to many other countries around the world makes our prisons look like 5 star hotels. Not to mention that if you are a US citizen and arrested abroad, you can not have the assistance of American legal aid. In Italy, a person can be detained, underline detained, not arrested for up to one year by law enforcement.

| Well no, I’ve never been in an Austrian prison. Nor a Turkish or French penitentiary either lol. I’m just saying that there are a few reasons I would feel more comfortable in a prison stateside. For one thing, I would be familiar with the language. That never hurts in a confined environment to be able to understand what people are saying to you so you are not constantly attacked, assaulted and beaten. As an American, if I was arrested abroad, especially in the current political climate as it stands and a lot of the annoyance and dislike of American citizens in general, I would be quite apprehensive about it. But to be fair, it depends largely on the offense and where you are located at the time.

| I really agree with Asha on this one. Being an American citizen who travels abroad quite frequently I know exactly how any political situation can make it difficult for people, from any country. I prefer to travel abroad to learn of different cultures, rather than read about them. I think you learn more that way, and you get to experience it as opposed to reading about it. By doing so, I have been fortunate enough to learn a tremendous amount about several countries. I have been to places the media would tell you are horrific and they ended up being some of the best vacations I had. I have also had the opportunity to visit countries who were on the political outs with certain countries, and that DID EFFECT how the natives treated those people. You could be sent abroad to the most posh prison of them all and suffer abuse and so on, just because you are not a 'local' or 'native'. A good example is this. The US has an agreement with Colombia. Being that the Colombian prisons are not as 'secure' as ours, when they arrest someone involved in the cartel or drug trade, they are threatened with time in federal prison in the US if they do not give up the 'bosses'. These lower ranking members are singing like canaries, in fear of being on foreign land in a prison system they know nothing about and in a country where they do not know the language. They just sent 14 over here to be tried and to serve their time in Federal prison. And.... our prisons are much more 'posh' than what they have in Colombia.
