Default Texas Mail

Hi Everyone,

Im sure this has been covered somehwere else but i cannot find the thread for it. Does anyone know the rules relating to mail for prisons in Texas. Is there any weight restrictions and are pictures allowed.

Any rough ideas how long a letter would take to get from the US to the UK as i sent my letter 3 weeks ago and iv heard nothing, although he is on DR does this make a difference? I have recieved one letter back from another man in the same place but who is not on DR, so i would think that both letters were delivered i just cant work out why the other is taking so long.

If i dont hear back at all, should i write again and ask if he got my letter?

Any thoughts would be welcomed - thank you

Hi Dragon, on the Index page of WAP, click on Texas. That will answer your questions very well.

In Texas there is not a weight limit per-say. They generally don't want someone mailing in 30 or more pages at once, unless it is considered legal mail.

The same goes for pictures. As long as the pictures as regular pictures, there is no limit for the amount that can be sent in.

My husband was at Polunsky on death row at one time, and I never had a problem with the amount of pictures I mailed in.

The guys on death row sometimes take a minute to respond. Sometimes for various reasons, but around the time of executions the mail gets a little slow for them, especially if they were close to the party being executed.

Often times the inmates on death row find themselves indigent and they are only allowed to mail out so much per week, so their mail may run slow.

I wouldn't worry yet, but what I would do is send a little hello card and let them know you wrote but are unsure if they received your letter.

Good luck and happy writing.

For TX add at least one day from the time your letter gets to the prison untill you pal gets it . Polunsky is a bit slower as they are more carefull when they scan the mail . Also ALL DR correspondence in and out going, is copied that will slow it down . As is any mail going to a know gang member or other security threat as they are called

Keep in mind Polunsky houses nearly 3,000 prisoners so it takes a while Mail room staff has only so much time and man power . this goes for and TDC Unit Usually it takes at least approximately 8-10 days between letters in he US .

When Junior was on Death Row he received my letters in 4 days. Just like now, 3 to 4 days. I can only imagine that from overseas is a little longer.

Just wanted to see if anyone had problems sending computer-printed pictures to correction facilities in Texas? I know some facilities only allow visitors to bring in "glossy/developed"-based photos but I wasn't sure if this policy also applied to mail?

I was writing to two pp's in Texas and did not hear back from either one ever since I sent a computer-printed photograph. Either there is something with the mail or my pp's didn't like the picture I sent!?!

Thanks!

HI! And welcome to WAP!

In Texas, within the TDCJ, you can not take anything into visitation with you, except for 20$ in coins.

You can, however, send in printed photos on paper or photo paper. I do this all the time.

If you haven't heard back, I would send a short hello card and let them you know you had not heard back and were writing to check their pulse

well i'm overseas and it does take a long time till d got his letter.
i think it's the fault from the mailroom d told me he always got a lot letters at the same day, maybe they keep them behind and when it become a lot they will give them at the prisoners.
