| Hi, I am new here. I have been writing to a penpal in Hughes Unit in Texas now for a couple of months now. I live in Australia too. It usually takes about 9 - 10 days for me to receive a letter from him, but it only takes 7 days to get there with mine. Not much of a difference. I guess it just depends on the people in the mail room. I hope this helps. |

| That really sucks that the mail has taken about a month to get to the prisoner. Maybe the prisons should hire more ppl to work in the mailroom, so the inmates could get the letters from their pen-pals. I've written to my pen-pal in Huntsville, Tx and he hasn't written back. (I live in South Tx) Maybe in my case, his privleges have been taken away. ????? He says he likes me and I like him too, so why would he take long? |

| Many things can come in the way of mail. Sometimes offenders go through periods where they get overwhelmed and it slows them down a bit, or the unit could be on lockdown, he could be low on funds and may not have the postage or writing materials to write straight away. Maybe send him a funny greeting card or even a post card in the in between time ?

| ASE, thanks for the info about DR and Security Threat. My pp is in Ad Seg as a Security Threat. I knew our mail - any mail to anybody - was going to be read, but his takes the absolute longest to get back. I write a lot so he had probably like 3 letters from me before I ever got my first reply. He didn't even realize I hadn't had his first reply yet. Now the thought of them scanning and keeping - THAT is something. I write pages and pages and I feel for the poor slobs who have to read my monologues. Someone who is looking forward to it can appreciate a 20 page letter, someone who is doing it for a living is probably bored stiff. Maybe sometimes just stiff, but that's for another post. LOL. |

| Postcards are not a problem if you use the correct address, use a return address . Do not contain nudity or maps . Just follow normal TDCJ correspondence rules .
