Hello ! Could anyone help me out with the specific mail rules for Tamms ? My PP has a hard time getting hold of the appropriate form and I really don't want to do anything wrong ... Thanks in advance and kind regards, Leonie

My fiance is at Tamms. You can send him as much as you want in a #10 envelope or an 8x10" envelope. I will warn you that their mailroom does NOT necessarily deliver the mail to the inmate when it arrives nor do they mail it OUT of Tamms when the inmate sends it. When it does finally reach the post office, I get it here in VA from Tamms in about 3 business days. They can get 4x6 photos, they can get paperback books you order for him from a publisher like Amazon. Hardback books are also permitted but the mailroom will tear off the hard cover (they are not allowed the hard covers) which will delay delivery to the inmate up to a month! There really aren't any major rules that I can think of except for the obvious of course. Nothing gang related, no nude pictures, no information about another inmate. If you have any specific questions let me know, Gayle

Thank you so much. Can I print out pictures and photos on normal paper ? And add some puzzles, crosswords or sudokos ? Any limit to the number of pages (not that I intend to send 50 of course) ? Postcards ? And the envelopes you mention are those the "normal" rectangular ones and the bigger size that you can put an A4 in without folding ? (not very good in American sizes I fear). Sorry for all those questions, but that way I shouldn't have to bother you again (lol). And thanks again ! Leonie

Basically, you can send him most anything so long as it is not indecent. The A4 envelope is fine, don't forget to put your name and address on the envelope or they will open it and send it back to you at a cost to your friend. I used to print pics from the computer and they got through fine. You can send books from home but it is cheaper to get them secondhand from Amazon and have them sent direct to the prison. Remember, no hardbacks, because unfortunately, I understand that people have hidden contraband inside the covers previously, As a poster has said, they will rip the covers off, so don't bother with them. Yes, send as many puzzles as you like, these guys need something to keep them sane, Tamms is not a nice place to be.

My pp was having a hard time a little while ago, and I just asked everybody I know if they were willing to write a card for him to cheer him up, some didn't wanted (ok) and some did, so at the and of the week I could send him a big envelope with 14 cards with messages to him. He was very happy with it and felt alive again. Maybe a idea?
