Default global-tel-link

global-tel-link phone number ( please give ph num out to members interested thru email or pm) Moderator Peanut2

I live in Canada,

I have a friend in Louisiana State Prison, She has tried phoning for several months now, she claims there are a block restriction the phone call. I call my provider, and there is no reason on there end the call should be blocked, also Global-tel-link states the same, and there automated service says there are no call restrictions on the phone line.

The problem I have is Global will acknowledge that my friend has tried to call from the Prison on more than one accession, and the call never made it through, But can not state the reason as to why?

I tried everything reasoning with these people. If anyone has to phone there, you will see what I mean about moronic service. In fact it is the worst! I repeat the worst service I have ever had I my life dealing with customer service. The first time I called the lady was mocking me, Before I even started asking questions, then gave me a basic answer that everything is fine now, and she has to let me go. I phone back a few more times trying to get better service, But it only gets worst as for communication, and answers with these people, they are not held accountable to anyone I check, your at the mercy, and there mercy is they do not give a crap.

I need to know the reason as to why the call will not go through, so I can remedy the problem.

The best I got from Global Tel was, tell your friend to keep calling, so we can have a record to work with, but the three calls that never went through are not enough, and that delays everything for a month when they have enough to work with now.

Does any one know why these calls are not making it through. Without the answer I can not fix the problem. I ask my PP if she could find out as to why, But being in Prison I am not sure what resources if any she has to find anything out, if I cant out here. I mean I was on hold one time with Global link for one hour the third time I called. I can see how prisoners are treated once they are in the system, this Global is for prisoner phone calls, and there service is a joke for accountability.

If I create to much trouble, they just hang up on my call like they did last time after I was on hold for over 30 minutes, so I am basically finished dealing with these people without the answers.

Have you tried using an American number? Maybe the problem lies in the fact that you're from Canada. Have you set up an account with GTL? Sometimes the only way to receive a collect call is by getting an account with GTL.

GTL used to be MCI. I know exactly what you mean by the morons working there. Exactly! It took me 6 mo. of calling and calling to find out there was still a code on my phone from years ago when I had teens at home. And since I needed to set up an account with MCI to receive collect calls I suspect you will, too. I know how frustrating it is. All I can say is keep trying. I had to contact the FCC to get mine straightened out. Good luck!

I asked to set an account, and there answer was " you cant " I need to speak with someone in management. If anyone has that contact. GTL is a complete joke for service. The people working there can barley speech English for one, and most likely illegal working for peanuts. In Canada they would not have a job in any customer service occupation we have a minimum standard for service, and these morons are way below that level. GTL is an embarrassment to United States. Cowards illegal hiding behind a phone service. I have never in my life dealt with such incompetence as such with GTL. There lucky there hiding in United States or I would go down there and straighten them out!

Alan.

Okay, so maybe the problem is that you can't set up an account with GTL, because you live in Canada. I would advise you to obtain an American phone number (there are companies out there that offer an American number for free, only paying about 4 dollars each month in service fees). You can (online) forward calls from that number to your Canadian number. Once you've done that, you can ask GTL to set up an account, using your American number.

Well, for me the US number works fine, just can't set up an account (not with GTL by the way), because I don't have an American billing adress. So I'm very curious about the outcome of all this.

All I can say is good luck and sorry I can't help you any further...

Once there is an outcome. I will let everyone know, But for now like I mentioned I am just going to wait. GTL do not want to deal with me, and without answers or solutions there is not much left to do. I have to now make it obvious to these morons that the calls are not making it through like they should, and investigate as to why. They know who I am, and the reason I keep phoning. The calls are not going through, and they do not know why. I faxed GTL, and asked that someone in management give me a call. That was three weeks ago, And nothing.

The only thing I can think at this moment is, that the prison itself may have blocked the call. That is something that needs to be check, Because like I said " everyone says the call should go through." and there are no reason that it should not as off yet.

The first time I called GTL they said " there was a block on the phone, and that is why the call never made it through, but everything is fine now." When I received word from PP that the call was blocked again. I called GTL back. They said the same thing. That there was a block, and it is removed. I asked when it was removed, and that date was after that last phone call attempt that never was blocked. Then they go on to explain they do not know why, and everything is fine again. That was the same answer they gave me last month when I called in, and nothing has changed.

Sometimes if your phone system you carry a call block for unannouced callers ,that will block prison calls, at times it can be at the prison end, or sometimes because "some prisons" you have to be on the visitors list for an inmate to call.
I am sorry your having this problem, sure with time it will be found out what is really going on. Good luck and keep us posted.

Almost all DOCs and the BOP will block a call forwarding number no matter where it is from . The do this for very real security reasons. I do not think any of these services can actually offer what they promise . If your PP is in a system where they have can either pay for a call from their account or use a "phonecard " they might be able to call a cell phone only if they pay for the call .
Other than that you need a land line and often have to submit a phone bill to the DOC/BOP Some now do allow a call to a cell phone only after seeing actual bill . I think it will slowly change as more peoples primary phones are cellphones
Peanut is right in many prisons especially max security places you have to be on a visitor list and approved to get a call
