| | Book help Hey peoples,
I'm trying to look into donating a quantity of new books - nothing out of control, maybe a few dozen. I'm running into a few snags in my research on this though. My problem is that I wrote them and would hate to have to buy my own book from amazon just to send it out - as a matter of fact, I would hate it enough that I wouldn't do it. Too, my publisher is Canadian and so the idea of him mailing them direct runs into the problem of International mail and the whole "must be USPS" thing. He could send them to me and then I could re-mail them myself but that is costly, in terms of both time and money.
Suggestions?
Angel

| | Re: Book help I contacted the prison librarian of the prison nearest my home and got permission to bring in books to donate. I'm assuming at least one mailing will be required of the books, so they could be mailed to you and you could bring them to the prison, if they'll allow it. Also, I don't believe every prison requires delivery by USPS, some may allow other shipping carriers, so you may want to check on that if it would be easier. |

| | Re: Book help Hey Angel,
My name is Max and I have a source at a publishing company that'll resend the books along with a invoice at no charge but postage to you. This is a company that deals with sending books to institutions all the time and knows the ropes. They are small and don't have a website but, if you want a reference ask Gumby. She has dealt with them before. Their goal is more to get books into prison than to make money so they try to only break even on their business. Their address and phone number is :
Silverhammer Publishing Co.
2618 Battleground Ave. Ste. 301
Greensboro, NC 27408
Phone # 336 - 314 - 7842
Good luck ! |

| | Re: Book help -- CELL U R BOOKS CELL-U-R BOOKS is a small company in the Tampa, Florida area that accepts donated books for mailing to inmates all over the country. The owner does not make any money doing this; in fact I have known her to actually purchase books for forwarding to inmates when her inventory runs low.
Should you or any others here be interested in donating reading materials for inmates, please PM me and I will be happy to provide you with the company mailing address and telephone number. |
