MANHEIM TOWNSHIP, Pa. --
Two prisoners being transported on Thursday afternoon in Lancaster County overpowered a constable, stole his truck and escaped for a brief period of time, police said.
"This is one of those rare things that we don't see happen here," said Manheim Township Police Department Sgt. Tom Rudzinski.
The prisoners, Samuel Martin and Jose Delgado, injured Michael Lawrence when they assaulted him and took his truck at Sunnybrook Road and Pleasure Road in Manheim Township at about 3:30 p.m., police said.
"The information unfolded very quickly. We were told that there was an officer involved. We were told that he was injured and numerous police agencies came together very quickly," Rudzinski said.
