| I have been watching it unfold live on Court TV also as its going on now. They are still doing openings since there are 8 defendants in total. So far I’m a little confused on the use of ammonia while subduing the young man? Is that common place? Ammonia is a pretty dangerous chemical to be sticking in someone face.

Asha the ammonia was used to bring him back to conscious because he was beat for 30 mins. "During the 30-minute altercation that ensued, seven guards took turns restraining Anderson against a pole, pinning him to the ground and occasionally kneeing and hitting him to gain compliance." Fumes from ammonia can be toxic if they are allowed to build up. Used as a smelling salt it is ideal because it is a small quanty, and most times used in a well ventilated or outdoor area such as outside or a facitlity like nursing homes are hospital settings. |

| I do not condone its use. I have witnessed too many problems associated with it. I dont wish to argue about it though. I have explained this on another thread. Thanks.

| Cool. It can probably be used safely under hospital conditions. Its just in the case of this boy, though it probably didnt cause his death, it certainly didnt help. That was a pretty confusing set of circumstances and a lot was going on all at once.

| The Martin Lee Anderson fiasco is far from over. Doubtless is that the feds will be indicting the guards for violations of his federal civil rights. And a very real possibility as well is that the state prosecutor from Tampa, Mark Ober, will also be facing serious legal problems; as noted in the following article, the prosecutors too celebrated the acquittals.
