| I wanted to share this with everyone. I also attached the link to the breif in case there are any legal people out there like myself that are into the arguments. I am looking for the state's breif as well and will post it when I can find it. Also if anyone has her address or has written to her I would like to have her address so that I could write her as well. Here's the link to her breif http://dig.abclocal.go.com/ktrk/100208_wright.pdf Thursday, October 02, 2008 HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Susan Wright, the woman convicted of killing her husband five years ago by stabbing him 193 times, is trying to get a new trial. Wright has a new attorney who says her original lawyer failed to call several key witnesses who could have helped in her case. More than four years after a jury sent her to prison for 25 years for killing her husband, Susan Wright sat in a Harris County courtroom and cried. This time her tears were for another woman who testified Jeff Wright also used her as a punching bag. Misty McMichael said, "Hitting, punching, choking, kicking, slapping... Anything." McMichael was once engaged to Wright. In emotional testimony, she said at least half of her four year relationship with him was filled with violence. She also testified he even kept her locked away in a tiny apartment. "He would throw me down that staircase whenever he wanted to," she said. "I mean, you could have easily broken your neck or anything falling down that staircase." McMichael now lives in Chicago with her new baby and husband, Steve McMichael, a former NFL Super Bowl champion. But Misty said she returned to Houston and a painful part of her past because it was the right thing to do. She finds it strange she was not called to testify during Wright's murder trial. Brian Wice, Wright's appellate attorney, considers it just one of several mistakes Wright's defense lawyers made. "These well-meaning, inexperienced, over-matched lawyers failed to follow up on that," he said. Wice believes Wright deserves a new trial or reduced sentence. Harris County prosecutors disagree. "I think that the verdict was just," said Harris County Assistant Prosecutor Baldwin Chin. "I think that Susan Wright got a fair trial. Neal Davis and Todd Ward represented her zealously and effectively." In 2004 Wright's high profile trial received national attention. She claimed she stabbed Jeff Wright 193 times and then buried his body in the backyard because she was afraid of the man who'd beat her for years. Wrights tearful testimony and prosecutor Kelly Seigler's reenactment of the crime on the blood stained mattress hallmarked the dramatic trial. In the end, a jury found the Houston mother guilty and punished her with 25 years. The woman who stood up for Wright today in court thinks if the jury heard her story, the outcome would have been different. McMichael said, "Jeff Wright was not a victim in any way, shape or form. Susan is the victim in there." Relatives of Jeff Wright disagree with that. "We're just praying that justice prevails," said Jeff's father Ron Wright. The judge listening to the hearing will not get the final decision in this case. He will only grant an opinion. The Criminal Court of Appeals justices are the ones who could give Susan Wright a new trial or adjust her sentence. | Part of why women kill a abusive spouse or partner is that restraining orders are very difficult to enforce unless the cop is near by ( Some cops don't enforce them mostly in southern states ) Usually if the woman does not have woman has a cell or other phone with 911 put in quick dial it is usually too late . Also the men do not care about a RO and a few days if that in lock up sitting in PC becuse they are not safe in poulation is not a big deal to them . Some states I think Mass, CA and NY are now using GPS ankle monitors on Domestic violence suspects ( not yet convicted ) and convicted after release and those with restraining orders . RO also just make the abuser more angry and determined to to what they want. I know in many states she never would have gotten convicted as we all have hgear the it too late when the cops came stories on the news Many women in southern prisn who have been convicted of homicide were victims of this extreme abuse they often cannot leave for financial . psychological .some have children or in some cases are actually physically restrained while hubby goes out to drink drug and what ever else he pleases ! But if he should land in prison he is in for a tough time thy will get at him . Ironic prisners for the most part have more sense of how to treat some, people than the law

| Keep in mind if a prisoner has been in the news a lot recently they might not be inclined to open any mail but that from those they already know They can get a lot of hate mail and they get enough hate from all the bosses and a few of the other prisoners . You might want to wait a few months if it was recently in the news . No most women do not assume you are some kind of male prison freak they usually get far less mail then well known male prisoners or male prisoners at all some are wary of those who collect "prison memorabilia" ot sell online also just a few thoughts and it is kind of sick to be selling stuff likethat on line or any where any ways not saying your gona do it but there are people who do Some offenders have in fact successfully sued people who sell their letters or art, photos of them , etc with out permission !
