Default Are your thoughts making you sick?

Are your thoughts making you sick?

Robin L. Silverman.

Give yourself a 1 for “yes” or “always”
A 3 for “maybe” or “sometimes”
And a 5 for “no” or “never”

1) When your co-workers or family get sick, do you expect to eventually catch whatever they have? Do you find that your symptoms and struggles match theirs?

2) When you look at yourself naked, do you see your physical flaws before you notice your beauty or strength? When you catch your reflection, are you often frowning?

3) Do you often worry about your health, and imagine all the diseases you might get? Are you afraid to go to the doctor for fear of what she might find?

4) Do you have a hard time remembering the last time you had fun? Do you think that "survival is for the fittest" and that you have to struggle just to survive and get through a day?

5) Have you avoided creating a health support system that includes complementary protocols like massage, nutrition, exercise and prayer? Do you refuse to take responsibility for the impact your actions have on your health?

6) Do you often think, "I don't have time for fun!" or "I'm too old/too fat/too scared to try (fill in the blank)? Are you regularly squelching your joy?

7) Do you believe that getting older means that you are going to eventually be sick? Do you identify yourself by a disease that you have now or may have had in the past?

8) If a food, drink or medicine makes you feel bad, do you continue to consume it anyway? When you get medical advice, do you pretend you understand instructions even when you don’t?

9) If someone asks you what you did all day, do you often answer, "Nothing"? Do you find it difficult to fall or stay asleep at night?

10) Do you ignore your body until something breaks down? Do you regularly make excuses about why you can't diet, can't quit smoking, can't eat right, can't exercise, can't meditate, etc?

Scoring:

20-40 Health Hazard! You’re probably convinced that disease is going to get you at some point, so you might as well smoke, drink, eat or loaf yourself to death. Or you may think, “it can’t happen to me.” If you like your body at all, it’s because of the few pleasures it gives you. You may suffer from a chronic illness, or see yourself as a potential victim of every germ that comes your way. Because you won’t or can’t focus on health, you enjoy very little of it, which likely compromises your zest for life. But as you can see, it doesn’t have to be this way. Regardless of your family or personal medical history, there are things you can do to live a full, healthy life for as long as possible. Even people with chronic illnesses can find ways to transcend some of their limitations. The information and help is available to all of us. Start with a new attitude and interest, and glow from there!

41-70 Health Hunter. You may get sick, but you also get well, and feel relatively confident in your ability to live happily and healthfully. You’re someone who tries to stay balanced, although your life doesn’t always cooperate. Continue to seek new and better ways to care for yourself, but don’t judge yourself harshly if your system “crashes” from time to time.

71-100 Happy and Healthy. You’re an active player in your own health, and probably feel great much of the time. You don’t take your health for granted, and know that a good attitude, attention to the satisfying moments in life and awareness of bodily needs and changes are important to living well for as long as possible. Glow on!

MM - isn't the maximum score 50? Is everyone condemned to, at best, being a "health hunter"? Should those who scored a mere "10" be phoning the undertaker to make an appointment a.s.a.p.?? All these questions!!
