BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (AP) -- A woman angry with her 12-year-old daughter for having sex forced the girl to drink bleach and sat on her until the child died, a police detective said.

The girl's 9-year-old brother was forced to watch the attack, Detective Warren Cotton testified Thursday in a preliminary hearing for Tunisia Archie, 31.

Archie is charged with capital murder in the asphyxiation death of her daughter Jasmine. If convicted, she could be sentenced to death or life in prison without parole.

Cotton said Archie, who has been jailed without bond since shortly after her daughter's Nov. 26 death, told authorities she was disturbed because "her daughter told her that she was no longer a virgin."

She said she poured bleach into Jasmine's mouth and the child vomited, he said, then sat on her until she stopped breathing, Cotton testified.

Archie forced Jasmine's 9-year-old brother Jacorey to watch the attack and "told him that if he shed a tear that she was going to kill him, too," Cotton testified.

Arhhh, How awful! It reminds me of that book My Story, where his Mother forced him to drink amonia. Fortunatly he survived though.

If I found out my 12 year old was no longer a virgin the first thing I would think would be rape. But even if it was consentual and with some one her own age I would be more upset then anything.

It seems unlikely that this was the first time she abused her daughter and it is a tragidy that no one interveined. I don't think it likely that no one noticed what was going on, although some people can be very deceptive so it could happen.

The poor boy having to witness that and be helpless to stop it. He will be scared for life, I just hope that he doesn't use destructive methods to cope with his pain or else who knows how he could end up.

HOLY CRAP!! is the way i am starting this post, sorry if i offend anyone i just cant believe that a mother would murder her own daughter for sleeping with someone? is the mother totally insane? well i would think so personally. i agree with you aussie, if i found out my 12 yr old daughter was already sexually active i would be saddened by it, and i would worry that she would be growing up too fast and try and talk to her - i would certainly not kill her. people just seem to be being born more and more 'insane' these days. chemical imbalances of note i would say really. but then hey, maybe she was just really mad and wanted to 'teach her daughter a lesson' right??? i think not!

reminds me of the book / movie SYBIL. did anyone ever see or read that? So many parents these days are killing their children... what in the world is going on??? If I had a daughter and she was 12 and came to me and told me she was no longer a virgin; I think it would be time to sit down and have a long talk, but I wouldn't kill her for it. What was this woman thinking? And then, making her 9 year old son watch and threatening to do the same thing to him? Sounds to me, as if she was VERY aware of what she did, because she told the detective she was upset because her daughter was no longer a virgin.

Someone said in another post that some people just aren't meant to be parents. You couldn't have said it better and I agree with your statement 110%. It seems like every day on the news there are more and more parents killing and abusing (to extremes) their children. It's saddens me to see things like this happen to children, or anyone for that matter. It's bad enough that so many children are born into poverty, starvation, malnutrition, and war... without all of these people killing their own children.

i am in TOTAL SHOCK!!! how could anyone think of hurting a child, especially their own child. i understand the reason for this would obviously lead to the parent being upset and yes, saddened, but to actually kill her..... well that is just totally unthinkable. and for her to force the younger child to watch this, well, i guess the mother is seriously unstable. what i am thinking is (A) how would a child of 12 know what sex is, and why would she be sexually active, unless she had seen it with her own eyes, and (B) what affect is this going to have on the young boy when he grows up?? is this in any way going to lead to the boy thinking that this is normal behaviour, and that this is what he should do to his children?? does any parent who does something like this, ever think of what it will do to the children when they grow up??? i really dont think so??? what do you all think??

Sounds sickning. The poor brother not only lost a (bad mom) but a sister. Makes me sad .

One of the prisoners I write to received an 8 year sentence for having sex with a girl nearly thirteen, when he was a teenager. She lied about her age. She had been sexually active for quite some time. Because of her age, he will have to appear on the sex offender list for the rest of his life. His life is ruined. She bragged about it to her friends and this is how it came to the attention of the authorities. It almost seems ironic, during the time of Christ, Jewish girls were married at that age. In this case, the parents didn't press charges, the state did.
