At the risk of sounding ignorant, ive noticed that some female inmates are looking for donations and some are not. What do these girls do with the money you send them ? Are they allowed to purchase things through the institution they are at or do they use this money to help pay any legal bills they may have ? I was just curious since ive seen other members here mention that they were solicited for donations from some of the inmates they have written to.

some need money for commisary , ( snacks ,female toiletries ( prison provides basic essentials as far as females go ) ciggs if u can even smoke where u are , stamps , paper cards ect .

some are putting money into defense funds , all i can say is if u are involved with an inmate and its more then a pen pal basis , u do what u feel u can . if an inmate says they dont want donations but consistantly asks u for money , they may not be sincere with their words to u at all !

also note , u are not the only one writing these girls , and if you multiply , what they ask u to send times say 5 , they are getting alot more then an inmate that never asked for money and never will !

its a shame !

best thing to do is state u wont send money ( send stamps if allowed so they can write ya ) or a basic 5.00 every couple of months based on how often they write , and see how the words flow then !

Thanks for the advice. Its much appreciated. I'm going to write Amy Lee Black and see how it goes. She has life sentence, issued at age 17. I cant imagine spending my whole life in a place like that. It sounds like a very sobering experience.
