Wow, I was driving home from work this evening, at around midnight and the police stopped me. They said I was driving too fast. He said since I'm a nurse and I work similar long hours like him I wouldn't get a ticket (?) But I don't know what he meant by that. It was kind of strange. These police really are scarey though. First time I was ever stopped. He had his lights flashing. I still have my New York plates so I was nervous about that also (I just moved to California).

A good friend of mine was a nurse for a long time here the city and she worked with alot of nurses who's husbands were police officers. They understood the pressure and would cut them alot of slack. It helped that there was a good chance she them or their commander. But she always made sure she had her hospital parking id prominently displayed, just in case. I understand how scary it can be when your stopped by the police, its only happened with me in a vehicle once or twice.

Having "been there; done that", I think I can clarify the situation for you. There is a tremendous amount of respect paid to certain professionals by the police. Those in the medical profession, for example, are revered as being the savers of life, on whom most police officers may have to rely at some point. Nurses, Doctors, EMT's, Firefighters, and others in similar occupations are granted a great degree of professional courtesy. They are all categorized as being involved in public safety, to one extent or another. Unless your actions are aggregiously unconscionable, you have little to worry about in most circumstances.

Does that mean I don't have to worry about getting speeding tickets in the future? This is great! I didn't even mention my occupation but he said he noticed the parking sticker on my car and the fact I was in my scrubs. I kept wondering what that had to do with anything but kept my mouth shut. I don't think they would have let me get away with this in New York, but then again in New York they would have never stopped me for going 55 in a 40 mile zone.

Sorry Lydia, I also worked in a hospital - doctors and nurses were always getting speeding tickets. One doc told the story that he was coming in to deliver a baby and the cop still gave him a ticket (the doc was lying). The cop that did not give you a ticket probably just liked the way you looked.

lol @ bigdog But you are right .. m ex hubby was always annoyed that he got tickets and I never did yet I sped more then him.. I told him it was due to him not having my cleavage .. I find as well if you are polite to officers they tend to cut you slack , but I do feel less woman get ticketed then males due to the fact that male police officers do tend to flirt a bit .. Arri
