Question Sexual orientation?

I know that a lot of the inmates who post ads on WAP are looking for loving relationships with their preferred sex, but also for someone just to write to.

I'm a gay man and I'm not looking for love behind bars but after reading the ads of a lot of straight men, I've found that there are quite a few whom I'd be interested in writing to just for the sake of corresponding with them and reading all they wanted to write about. If I were to do this, I would be upfront and honest but I can't help but wonder if this isn't a good idea.

Hi Zalman, i think there are lots of people behind bars looking for a great friendship, and dont mind about age, race, sexe, wich religion you have or dont have, or sexual orientation.
You said: I i were do this, i would be upfront and honest, but can't help but wonder if this isn't a good idea.
I think honesty is the most important base for a good friendship, and being hones cant never be a bad idea. I really hope you decide to write some people. It will brighten their day so much. And you will love it for sure, also. Wish you lots of happy writeing

Zalman, I am a Gay man also, and while it is true that some inmates don't care what your orientations is, others will "play" you pretending they are Gay when they are not. They think that if they show interest, you will send them money. Just be careful and keep it friendly. Common sense goes a long way when writing to prisoners...or any stranger.

I would say, be open and honest, and if they decide not to write back, thats up to them. It would be the same if I decided to write to a gay woman. I'd let them I know I was straight, and then they could decide if they would like to write back.

I have perused many ads on this and other sites. Sure, many males and females explicity state they are looking for members of the opposite gender. However, my impression is that so many are just looking for a friendly penpal no matter what age, race, status, what have you; especially, those in for long terms and life.

Smile Re: Sexual orientation?

I know what you mean when i first started out i was going to write a women but they seemed to get way more mail then the men so i ended up writing a guy to reach out my hand of friendship to .read the ad careful i dont think you even need to bring up your sexual preference who's buisness is that anyway especially if its just a friendship .I dont think i needed to tell him im straight or if i wrote a women im straight so why would you have to mention your gay only when looking for romance would the subject need to come up.
have fun ,hope you find a great friend

I don't think it is necessary to bring it up in the beginning - if the question comes up down the line after you have established a friendship, then you can tell them. I personally don't meet new people and immediately tell them my sexual orientation and can't recall anyone feeling the need to tell me theirs.

LOL Joyfull,, I like that answer,, I agree ,it does not apply,,if they are looking for friendship,,and so are you ,, what difference would it make to even bring up,, at the kick off,,, I mean when I meet someone I like,, as a person..to be a friend,,, I certainly do not care about their sex preference,,, I just like them for whom they are,
