Question Sending books from Amazon to Menard, IL ?

Hello, I'm already thinking ahead..

My pp is incarcerated in Menard, IL
I want to send books to my new pp (who loves Tolstoy and Tchekhov..) I went on his DOC's website to check out .. but this is all I got : are books considered publications ?
I'm a big user of Amazon so I don't have any trouble using it, I just want to make sure they accept books from Amazon ! I mean it'll be his X-mas present and I don't want them to return his gifts !
If you have a pp in Menard, thank you !!

THIS IS THE DOC's statement :

What items can I mail to an inmate?
Inmates may receive correspondence, legal mail, and publications which are reviewed to determine whether they are obscene or constitute a danger to safety and security. Inmates may receive cashier's checks or money orders not to exceed $50 addressed to them with their inmate number and your name and address. Money orders should be sent to the prison.

Additionally, funds in any amount may be sent to the inmate via Western Union. The sender should specify that the recipient is with ILLINOIS DEPT CORRECTIONS. The sender must indicate the inmate's incarceration name and inmate number
.

Yeah they just mean newspapers have to come directly from the publisher.Just a little hint make sure you go ahead and send the books through Amazon. The books have to go through property before they are given to your PP.Well I have sent books to both of my PP's in CA and KY,and it has went that way.

that's what I thought when I read publications - so despite the fact that it's not written on the DOC - they're still allowed to get books from Amazon ?

Too bad they don't write it - now I have to cross my fingers and hope they'll get my books !

I would check with the facility about books, because while some are allowed hard cover others are not. Some prisons will still allow the book in AFTER ripping off the cover, while others reject them altogether, so best to ring/inquire before ordering if you can.
