Hi, All:

I just received a letter from a pal wanting to know if I would mind if he sent me some of his legal documents so that I could forward them on to another inmate that used to be his cellmate. Supposedly this old cellmate was recently located to another part of the facility but used to help him with pulling together his legal docs when they shared the same cell. Then, once the cellmate has had a chance to help him with the legal documents, his old cellie will send the docs to me in order that I may forward them back to my pal.

If anyone else has run into this please let me know. Thanks for the advice, y'all.

you need to be very careful doing this , and get yourself in any trouble

Only way I know of that being legal... is for the inmate to get spec permission inside to send mail to another inmate,, even if family,, I do not think that is any different law from prison to prison or state to state,,,,

This does not sound legitimate to me. Most prisons have Law Libraries...especially the large ones...that are staffed with "law clerks"...to help inmates with briefs, document assembly, advice, etc. So I have to ask why doesn't your Pal just route the documents through the Library?

My Pal has a friend who was transferred to another prison. A couple of weeks after the transfer I got a letter from her friend asking me to forward it on to my Pal. Not a chance! Its against the rules in most states, and I was not about to get my Pal in trouble, have my visiting or mail privelegs cut off....it is just not worth the risk!

I agree with Tom. If the papers are legit, he can transfer them by way of legal aid.

By you doing them you are putting yourself at risk. Best not to get involved.
