Prison van carjacked, stopped after chase EATONTOWN, N.J. A New Jersey highway has been shut down after a gunman carjacked a van that had been carrying prisoners.
The van crashed after a 70-mile chase on the Garden State Parkway.
Authorities say a gunman ordered five inmates out of the van and took off. The chase ended in Egg Harbor Township, where the van rolled over near the highway's intersection with the Atlantic City Expressway.
Police closed the parkway in both directions and surrounded the overturned van.
State officials say the van had been carrying five minimum-security prisoners from Northern State Prison in Newark. They were to spend the day picking up trash along highways.
The prisoners are now in the custody of Eatontown police.
