My Mood: | | Post Office reaction I seem to run into the same lady when I go check my mail and post my letters. It is the largest Post Office in Hong Kong so they have many staff but every time nearly, i get this really cranky one who makes strange snarling sounds when she weighs my letters! Last night she actually said something to me in Cantonese which made the male worker next to her burst out laughing! i suspect that she thinks that I am a real weirdo for writing to prisoners! Perhaps others of you have had similar experiences? I actually find it quite funny. |

My Mood: | | Re: Post Office reaction well, i dont need to weigh my letters upon sending them out. however sometimes i have to pick things up from behind the counter if the pp hasn't put enough postage or something, and at one time i had a pp that did this fairly often and then they would tut at me ! lol.
"You should tell him to check the postage rates" they would say lol. |

| | Re: Post Office reaction Funny that you should mention that. I had a similar experience. But, I live in a small town of 4000, so everyone knows everyone else's business. :-) So, after writing to my Texas PP, for about a year, one of the two women, in the post office, whispered, "Is this a relative?" LOL
Naturally, the other woman, behind the counter, suddenly grew very big ears. And when I replied that this was simply a friend who was in prison for murdering an abusive husband, she said, "Good for her!"
I always seem to get very positive responses when I mention, to women, that my PP is in prison for murdering an abusive husband. Is this a secret desire of all women to kill an abusive man? Or is it just any man? :-)) |

My Mood: | | Re: Post Office reaction My mother speaks cantonese. She learned it years ago. I always take her to the nail salon with me so she can translate for me ;-)
The ladies at my post office always give me a funny look when I hand them the post. They have not said anything to me about it.

My Mood: | | Re: Post Office reaction Last time I went in to buy some nice stamps, since I was at the counter, the lady weighed my letters and stamped the stamps.
She had this sort of forced smile on her face.
Oh well... I don't really care one way or the other. I'd never tell what my pps are in for, people just would not understand.
Loved the story of the abusive husband and of the "Is it a relative ?" question !!!
People are so damn funny, yearning for gossip !!! |

I am really happy to be weird too and thanks for sharing this with me! I must say though I have met so many beautiful people in prison, and on this forum such as you Fairy! I don't care anymore. I saw her again today as In HK I am lucky that my PO is open 7 days. There she was again! I reckon she must punch out the other workers just to serve me!
Have a good week Fairygirl!

My Mood: | | Re: Post Office reaction I have an electronic postal scale here at home with a good variety of postage. I have had my PO Box since 1974, and have been writing pp since 1984. My box is also the first one for the Anson Jones Post Office, John & I seem to get treated very well with all the stamps envelopes we have to sign for or occassional weigh in to be sure of new rates. It seems they like they business and variety of our mail (even keeping my stamp weekly to read, for a week. Now I do so online!) | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
