(Florence, SC, August 1st, 2003, 12:18 p.m.) Authorities in the Carolinas and Virginia have stopped and searched several buses along Interstate 95 to find a possible missing baby.
Public Safety Department spokeswoman Sherri Iacobelli says authorities received a nine-one-one call around eleven Thursday night to report the missing child. Iacobelli says the woman told authorities she got off a tour bus heading to New York when it stopped at a gas station in Florence. The baby was left on the bus, which pulled away before the woman could get back on.
Authorities say the woman is of Swedish origin and that made it difficult for her to communicate with them. Iacobelli says troopers don't know where she is right now. Iacobelli also says employees at the truck stop didn't know anything about the incident. A South Carolina trooper immediately stopped a bus about ten miles up the road, but the baby wasn't found. It's unclear how much time elapsed between the bus leaving and the incident being reported.
