It's always hard to pick a pal for friendship, there are so many ads. For me the most important was that he or she had the same kinds of interests, so we had something to talk about and in common.

Yes, it can take a while before you will recieve a response. Our letters travel around for a week. And sometimes even longer.
And when it takes some longer, there can be many reasons why it can take awhile before you will have a letter back. Maybe your pal is out of stamps, and have to order new ones (they usually have store once a week). But many times you will get a letter back. I would wait just some weeks. Wish you lots of happy writeing!

The first thing that struck me about mine was his amazing long blond hair. Wow--I loved it! The rest of what made me choose him is he did not ask for anything. He said he would respond to everyone as well. I chose a 'lifer' if you will because I think they need frienship more than others. I hope to hear from him soon.

I have chosen someone i want to write to but am just waiting to do it. I am kind of apprehensive incase he doesn't write back though. I hate rejection! But anyway, I knew i wanted to write to someone on death row so I clicked that option, the area wasn't an issue as I am in England. I then looked at phots and a few stood out. I picked the one I did cos he has a nice smile and I don't know, he just looks nice. His ad was short and to the point and asking for frienship. So I am going to write the letter and send it next week.

I wrote to them all for different reasons:

penpal 1: he`s from an interesting minority & we share over ten hobbies

penpal 2: he was depressed & urgently needed someone that makes
him swim in letters

penpal 3: lonelyness

penpal 4: he is almost illiterate and hence I became his first penpal ever since

penpal 5: had no friends and trust in people, very sceptical and hurt

penpal 6: a person that didn`t seem to take everything for granted & lonely

penpal 7: mature, in desperate search for a caring friend that is loyal


Well, that`s all of my penpals. If I forgot any I`ll myself ---- I`m
just kidding due to being hopelessly self-deprecating. My nickname could be

I have wrote to 2 different ladys in WAP & imma waitin on thier reply back to me.They aint lookin for nuttin,not even a donation. All they was wantin was a friend who can look past thier past & just be a friend for them & give them a sholder to cry on when they need one.I have been in prison myself in another state so i know exactly what they are goin through cause i did 18 & 1/2 months without anyone coming to see me.It gets very lonely in there & i feel sorry for ppl in the systems but i dont feel sorry for them doin time for doin thier crime.

I have always chose those on the no mail list. As well as those on DP and lifers.

I have chosen all of mine based upon their written profile. Got some really right and some really wrong. Those that I do have though are such wonderful and beautiful people that I am so much richer for the experience. One of my crew wrote the other day that by me just saying that I was worried about them in prison meant so much to them! Such a small thing to us but to them it means so much! Anyone contemplating writing I would say the rewards make it definitely a wonderful experience.

You don't really have a lot to go on and I think initially the photos drew me in closer. Then I read the ads, if they were around my age with something I could relate to, that narrowed it down.
I have now written to 3, one on DR and 2 Lifers. I am waiting for replies and the wait is horrid haha. If they don't reply I will be back to square one again - looking through.
