I apologise as I know I have posted a similar topic to this before - but I no longer have access to Yahoo from work and some of you kind people emailed me info on taking collect calls and company names. I have no idea where to start - could I impose and ask you to help me again? I got my first collect call from my pp (it was fantastic)on friday but we were both very worried how expensive it could be - can anyone point me in the right direction (again)

Chelseagirl, I am very pleased you received your first phone call from your pp. If the line is working then you must know what company you are with. Just ring them or email them to find out the rates.

I dont know yet how much it cost - Im a bit scared waiting for the bill - I just know that there are companies that you can arrange a cheaper rate

If your pp is in the SHU and effectively on a disciplinary, are they unable to make calls and if you wanted to make one collect, how do they go about it from the States to London? I've only spoken to my fiance once on the phone and it cost him $83 for less than 10 mins which is very wrong. Had to lie to them and say I was his mother as my name wasn't on his list ! You must be so excited, I was and couldn't stop smiling, it's strange when you put a voice to the letters, makes them seem more real !

I've posted this before, but will do so again. My pp calls me collect from CA. I am in the UK. Each 15 min call costs me £25 and they don't show up on my bill until a month or two after the call was made. So proceed with caution! It's great to speak with him, but my bill ran up to astronomical proportions (in excess of £1000) so I'll be happy if you learn from my mistakes!!!
There are many companies in the USA who offer discounted collect calls, by assigning you an American telephone number that is then re-routed to your landline in the UK. I've not actually used one myself, but I'm sure someone on here will have more info. One of the companies I did look into is called Outside Connections, and you pre-pay for calls, but have to give them a sign up fee of approx £100 up front. I don't know how 'safe' these companies are, but I hope I've helped a bit!

Yes, I use outside, for 2 months now and it works real fine! You know the costs even before you have your first call and you are always the one who controls it. Because who have to replenish your account there through paypal so you have enough on your account for the monthly fee and each call to Germany costs about 11 USD for 15 minutes.
