| Hi everyone! I just have a quick question for you all. I gave my cell number to a pen pal in Mass. A while back and I remember him saying that he would add me to his call list in October. We didn't talk much about it after that but tonight I received a missed call and when I listened to my voice mail it was a recording saying an inmate was trying to call me. Does anyone know how that works? Am I charged or does he pay for it? I'm wouldn't be as worried about it except I'm on a family plan. Any help/advice would be appreciated! |

| Depending on how your friend called. If he had a phone card you will NOT be charged. If it was collect and your machine picked up you will be charged a connection fee. Then also from what i understand about cell phones in America you can also be charged or minutes taken from your "talk time" if it is not your "free time" even if he is paying for the call. Hope that makes sense. That is what i have knowledge of from past experiences.

| I have free nights/weekends so that's not an issue for me. I know in one letter he said something about having an account that held money for the phone calls? I'm not really sure what that meant. I guess I could have asked him, but at the time I didn't. I don't have a problem sending money to put on it; it's the charges on my cell that concern me. L |

| If he called in your free time and he has the ability to buy calling cards(money taken out of his account, and put into a phone account), then i believe you would have no charges.

| I think the most accurate answer to this inquiry would likely come from your cell phone service provider. You may want to call customer service and ask whether or not a collect call to your cell phone is even possible, and whether you are charged (minutes) even if the call is placed from a pre-paid phone card. There may be free nights and weekends, but some calls fall into that "certain restrictions apply" clause. |
