10 Years ago my brother had it made. He had a great job, a wonderful home and land and a wife he loved. Then in a spin of a moment his life changed.Him and his wife started struggeling for they wanted children, yet his wife was 10 years older than he, and nothing worked to make that happen. He came home to find his wife had moved out (With much of the items in the home) and was having an affair. He started falling downhill in shock of the goings on around him. He began drinking more and more with his friends to hold his life together (though he thought). He made a big mistake one night while drunk and slept with a girl whom told him she was of age (And looked of age).(Information can be found on Texas Sex offenders site) She was only 16 yrs old and he in his 20's. The mother pressed charges against my brother.(Indecency with a child/Sexual Contact) My brother was to have 5 years probation and sexual conceling over this matter. The probation was no problem for my brother had never been in any trouble before, but the counseling was taking a mental toll on him. He was in counceling with others whom was molesting small children and was seen as the same as them. He emotionally and mentally could not handle that.Having to listen to the details of others life events that got them there when he loved his many nephews and neices and wanted children himself, was driving him to depression. He loves children and did'nt see himself as the same. He made a huge mistake, but would never touch a small child. He began drinking more and finally decided he could not do this anymore and ran.. He ran for over 6 yrs until someone (an ex-girlfriend) turned him in. He is now serving his time of 4 yrs and will probally get out in 12-18 months. He is glad that the run is over, for it was not much of a life, and looks forward to rebuilding a life once released. He needs another caring heart to help him hold it together while locked up.

Chilltime you sound like a great support system for your brother....He is lucky to have you! I hope that someone will pick up a pen and send him a few words of encouragment....Your right about people looking at the name of the crime and automatically classifying.... I knew of an 18 year old who had slept with his 16 year old girlfriend and caught prison time over it. It was all over the news...anyways... take care..just trying to keep this at the top for you...

Please do not post solicitations for penpals in the message board. WriteAPrisoner.com provides a means by which inmates (or their friends/families) can post an ad for that purpose.

In order to continue the work that WriteAPrisoner.com does in the interest of inmate rights, they must generate a certain amount of income. Mounting these battles is often expensive. In order to cover some of the cost of doing so, WAP charges nominal fees for advertising by inmates who are seeking penpals.

Income generated from the ads is also used to keep this website up and running, so that you all have a place to "meet" and assist each other.

When someone posts the name and address of an inmate on this message board, seeking penpals for them, it deprives WAP of the income that would be generated by placement of an ad on the WAP site. The one posted here has cost WAP the loss of $40.00 (roughly equivalent to one quarter hour of attorney services).

WAP must generate income in order to continue doing what they do to help ALL inmates in ALL institutions. Obviously, there is nothing wrong with you sharing the names and addresses of inmates that are referred to you, but this should be done by private email, and not in a manner that bypasses the procedures on WAP. Doing so deprives WAP of the ad fees, and ultimately injures WAP's ability to continue the fight for inmate rights (and subsequently, your rights to write inmates).

I've never seen WAP post something saying we can't advertise for inmates wanting penpal. Is this correct the above statement.

Well...I will say this, all of us, ok not ALL of us but many, myself included has posted names of inmates.... and their address's...... NOONE ever stated that it was not allowed from WAP before when people posted......and if it is a rule, it should be on the front page like the other rules about threats and behavior when you enter the forum.......Im ignoring this person until it says "webmaster" is doing the posting......

I was not aware of this rule mentioned in the post above. I did not see it in the rules of the board. I am new here and only trying to help my brother out for I know he is a good guy paying for his mistake. I figured with a title of "WriteAPrisoner.com" represented just that. When I found this board and was looking over it I seen a post from a Mother whom said her son had written her with 2 of his Inmates address inwhich she posted looking for Penpals for her son freinds. So I did the same. I have seen many of those sites inwhich you have to pay a fee for posting information to gain penpals, and found a few inwhich was free. I have to admit, I have been trying to avoid those fees unless otherwise had to, for I am the one whom finacially helps my brother while in lock up and will be the one to do the same once released until he is up on his feet. Our Mother helps as much as she can, but on her income it is not a lot, but is appreciated. I don't mind for I love my brother, but I am married with 4 children, so that alone gets spending, specially when 2 of my children are driving age (18 m, 16 f, 12 m, & 9 f.)I apologize if I had crossed any boudaries and appreiciate those kind words and acts of those whom said they are writting my brother. Thank You from the bottom of my heart.
