| First let me say WELL DONE YOU!!! I quit in January but still lapse if i go out drinking....so now i dont drink either. (much) before those who know me comment on a certain party not so long back heehee I used accupunture to ease the tension, so sailed through it..this time. TRYED MANY TIMES BEFORE. The difference was that i really wanted to and i changed my mindset so that i convinced myself that i was happy to quit, whereas normally it felt like a punishment to me. It is never an easy task and there are people who try and fail and never try again. So dont give up the trying and if you lapse (which you wont There is a book i read which i used along with the accupunture, which guided me how to change the way i think about smoking..it helps honest. Not sure if i can post title etc here so if you want it just drop me an email. Relax ... Relax ... Relax ... anything that reduces tension helps, while the lungs are detoxin and the nicotine is out of the body in three days..the rest is all in the head. THEY SAY HAHA GOOD LUCK ...XXX

| I used that nicotene gum and its been a few years now. I know some people are against it because you are still getting the nicotene buzz but you gradually ween off it and it just keeps you from going nuts and eventually you dont even want the gum anymore. It works in some cases.

| I quit ten months ago after 30 years of smoking!! I never wanted to, or tied to quit! Had a heart attack. Not a bad one but clearly a message! Quit the next day and haven't had one since! Used the nicotine patch program and it helped! Everyday of that ten months I have wanted a cig at least once! IT IS NOT EASY BUT IT CAN BE DONE! Just keep fighting and good luck! Read your list every day! GOOD LUCK!! Tom

| Add to your list a much increased risk of heart attack and heart disease! Also keep telling yourself that if you break down and smoke, you have to start all over again. I did a lot of rational talking to myself, i.e., "are you sure you really want a cigarette now?" "you've done so good why start all over"...it may sound crazy but it works. Also, each week you don't smoke give yourself some kind of treat - you deserve it! We are proud of you! |

| TCF...Sorry to hear of your heart attack. How are you doin nowdays?? Yes sometimes a health scare makes us quit. I got diagnosed with breast cancer nov o4 and aged 39 it was a major shock!!! thats what made me want to quit....however i began smoking more through sheer fear and stress etc. People would see me light up and go..."oh dear should u..havent u....oh dear!" then they would just shake their heads. Quitting is the best thing i ever did and now i am cancer free, i am almost grateful for the nudge it took. Never thought i would stop. Like you i smoked for 29 years and around 30 a day..more with alcohol.Wish you all the best with your non-smoking and future health Tom Scotslass - keep that list growing and YES read it every day

| Oh! I'm fine now...thanks to my loving wife and my loving Pal who stuck with me through the whole terrible experience! The day I had the proceedure where they cut into your femeral artery was bad. I opened up and bled to the pint of passing out before they discovered what was wrong with me and as I lay there in bed I looked up and my wife was holding one hand and smiling down at me and my Pal was holding the other hand and smiling down at me...in her prison blues no less....and at that second I knew I would survive. I don't have an explanantion for that....and I don't care how or why that happened...I just know it did! And I know I survived because of it! My Pal prayed so hard for me that the arthritis in her knees crippled her for a month after I recovered. It is too bad that we just never seem to get the message until it smacks us right between the eyes. Sorry to drag the thread off topic. Tom
