| Original Email sent to various Prison Pen Pal Programs: Dear Sir/Madam, I would very much like to join the prison pen pal program. I like the idea of starting a correspondence with someone who is locked up. But I have to admit up front that I abhor crime and criminals. I have no compassion for criminals. My sympathies lie with the victims. Ideally, I would like for you to find me someone who has been put in jail for a crime they didn't commit. Please be certain that this person is one hundred percent innocent and has been wrongfully imprisoned because the system has failed them. Can you do this for me? I am sure that I can help keep such a person in good spirits with uplifting letters of hope and joy. Yours Sincerely, Mrs. Helen Lowe Response from Hello Mrs. Lowe, Thank you for writing. I'm afraid you're asking the impossible. If we could be sure that any of these men or women were 100% innocent, they wouldn't be on this site. However, here is a list of inmates proclaiming their innocence You may want to try there. All the best. Sincerely, Jason Response from Mrs. Lowe, There is no way we could know for certain if a person is innocent and wrongfully incarcerated. Clearly even the courts cannot tell. Sincerely, Kathy Olson Response from Hello Mrs. Lowe, I'm sorry, but we would have no way of knowing if someone is 100% innocent of the charges and conviction which brought them to prison. Even if they were wrongly convicted, we would have no way of knowing for certain that is the case. Many of the men will state in their ads that they have made mistakes (which I assume means they were guilty). Many of the men will state in their ads that they were wrongly convicted and that they are innocent, but I would imagine that only they and God would know for certain. There are also individuals in prison who were guilty, but who have done everything within their power to make amends for their crime. Those are the people that most individuals visiting our web site are hoping to connect with. We have forwarded over 7,000 email responses in the past 14 months, but you are the first individual to say you would only wish to correspond with someone if you knew for certain they were innocent. Most of the people responding to ads on our web site are professionals (teachers, social workers, nurses, etc.), and many state in their responses that they hope they can make a positive difference in the prisoner's life, where perhaps that person did not have a positive influence in their life prior to coming to prison. Take care and I hope you find someone you feel is worthy of writing to. Reading the individual ads may give you an idea of what is inside a person's heart. Here is a link to our Search Express Instant Friend Locator to make searching as easy as possible for you: -Casey Response from no. we cannot help you it appears that you are somewhat judgemental in your beliefs and we believe that guilty or innocent...everybody makes mistakes... hopefully you have not made any mistakes in your life...or better still you have made them and just never got caught. have a blessed day. |

| Bhidreamer - you may wish to preface posts like this with the words "humour" or "joke" for the rest of you.... the site is http://www.greencats.com/index.htm it's a guy who sends emails to organisations asking funny/stupid/silly questions - and then posts their official responses. My favourite would have to be the "don't drop the soap" thread... enjoy.
