Off topic i know but i thought i would share....My suburb is on fire! Apparently it started 2 nights ago but i only saw it yesterday for first time, we actually did what i never do and that is went for a sticky beak and yeah i can confirm with my own eyes, one of the 3 dominant hills that surround my suburb was well and truly on fire! and apparently will be all weekend. If you were to imagine that my suburb is shaped like a high sided bowl, im in the middle at the lowest point and the fire is on about 1/3 of the rim, and in 2 other suburbs boardering mine, (about 100ha) So far no one has been injured beyond 2 fireys with heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation, and no houses burnt that i know of but it did go right up to there gardens. Summer seems to have come early in Qld we are barely mid spring and we are forcast to have 36C degrees on Sat which is about 97F Oh and i only live about 12 mins from the CBD of my Brisbane

Oh Leanne! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family! Hopefully those fires will be put out before they reach your home. I'll pray for your safety and those of your neighbors and friends. I know those fires are scary and how dangerous and cost destructive they are. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this today. ps. may I ask what a sticky beak is? hehe

Oh lol sorry a "sticky beak" lol now i dont even remember how i spelt it, um its being nosey, i didnt have any reason to drive over the hill, other than to go take a look. it should never get to my house, but i watched yesterday from the school as it did get within metres of other peoples houses, and was a bit concerned that teachers werent comforting the children i could hear saying that their house was up there. The helicopters were dumping water and you could see that it was working enough to prevent that house from burning. Its not the first bush fire i have been near, i clearly remember "Ash Wednesday" we were in that too.

At that stage we lived just out of Timboon Victoria, on a farm, that day was so confusing, both the school and our family sent us into the fire instead of out of it, lucky for us after the fire trucks started to arrive and told us we were next, the wind changed, other family had fences burnt but we were lucky, a kid and his mother from our school died so did a few others in our area, not to mention the piles of dead animals and eww thats enough of a trip down memory lane, one thing i will never forget till the day i die was the sky...
