Hi
I am from England and am in correspondence with a friend who is in a Prison located in the State of Iowa. I want to send some money to help with day-to-day needs but cannot obtain US Money Orders in the UK. Can anyone possibly tell me where I can obtain these mysterious items of monetary paper please? I have tried sending Cash to the Warden of the Prison (as we would here in the UK) but it has been returned.
Any help will be truly appreciated.

Malcom, Perhaps you have a friend in the states who you could send the cash and have them purchase a money order for you and send it on to your pen pal?

I know I have done this for a friend who lives in Holland. She and her friend sent me the (US) cash, and I bought the money orders and sent them on to their pen pals. This was at Christmas, when the mail is especially slow. So, in the long run it got to the inmate account a bit faster than it would have, had they had to have waited for the Money Order to be Purchased and sent to them, only to send it back to the states again.

IF you have a friend willing to do this for you, this might be an option. If you do not have a friend who can do this, feel free to e-mail me at lovethatgator@hotmail.com and I will be glad to do this for you. I will provide you with the information you'd need in order to do it this way.

Otherwise, I don't know of another way to do it, and hope that someone will be able to help you out with this. Good Luck!

I can get Western Union money orders, out here. Made out in US dollars.
They cost about $8.00.

Malcom, i lve in Ireland and and when i started sending money to my pp i had to make a lot of enquiries,but now i just change the currency and then ask for a bank draft in US$ for whatever amount i intend sending~ this is made out to my pp c/o the prison.i post it off then with a deposit coupon i print from the DOC site,though i dont know if this is needed where you're pp is at.*i hope this helped you a little : )

Hi Malcom,I live in Ireland and had the same problems starting out but after many enquiries it was'nt as difficult as it seemed.ok this is how i send~i change currency first then obtain a bank draft equivalent to what i intend to send,have it filled out to my pp c/o DOC Nevada.i then just post it off along with a coupon i print from DOC site,where your pp is im not sure about the coupon though.anyway i hope this was of some help.

hi malcom i send money from the uk to a prison in florida,but i use western union direct wire money transfer,the co op travel aggents normally have this service if thats any help to you.

hi there - i live in the uk, and send money to my p/p by going to the bank and getting a US$ bankers draft, (it costs about a fiver), which i can then send to my p/p
