Default Made a mistake.

So I wrote to several new people and I've gotten responses from all of them. I made a mistake, 2 of the guys are both in Polunsky, one is on DR and the other is not.
I feel really bad leaving a letter unanswered. At the same time, I'm concerned about writing two people in the same place.

Advice, what is a girl to do?

If you still want to write to both, then you must tell them both that you are writing to another inmate at the same facility.

If you do not want to write to one, maybe someone here can pick up the correspondence for you and explain what has happened, leaving the door open for the inmate to close it instead? If it were anywhere but TX, I would offer, but I can't.

I think that letters are too much personal to be share with other inamtes… I tkink that they will never know you write to both of them....

Normally I would say not good, but since one is on DR the other is not I see no problem just do not bring up names.

I would make a choice between the two. The one you choose no to write I would explain that you only write 1 inmate per institution address and you hope they find what they are looking for as you currently write someone there already. Inmates have communication and for myself it has never worked out weel with two at one institution address.

Sometimes the mailroom has a nasty "habit" of mixing up the letters if they see that someone is writing to more than one person in a particular unit. True enough, if one is on DR and the other is in GP they won't exactly cross paths but they could still find out you're writing to another. Whether it's a relationship or just friendship, inmates can be very possessive of their penpals. It could cause no amount of strife. I think, as Sunray's Wench says, pick one you want to continue writing to and try to find another penpal for the other one.

My idea was just to let them both know that I made a mistake and wrote to two people at the same place (no names mentioned) and ask them if they are comfortable with that, or not. I have only written back the DR inmate, and I let him know what happened. Still working on writing to the other, I got 4 letters within 3 days.

Sabricent, I think you just answered your own question :-)
Let them both know what happened and ask them if this is alright.

I wrote to 2 penpals at the same facility before I started reading this message board. In other words before I realized it was a very horrible thing to do, and that I'm a very bad person.

As soon as I started to read threads that advised against it, I told them both. One was fine with it, and we've never mentioned it again.

The other told me she thought it was "weird", and that "it's ok, I guess".

I interpreted that to mean she's not happy, but she still wants to write to me. We've exchanged 8 letters or so since then, and she never mentioned it again until this last letter. In it she asked if I'm still writing to another inmate at the facility she's in. I replied yes, and explained a little about how this came to pass (i.e. naivety on my part), since it seems to be bothering her.

But what's done is done, and I'm not going to stop writing to either penpal because the other wants me to. In fact, I don't even feel bad about it. I like both of my pen pals, but if one decides to stop writing to me because of this, well, that's her choice.

(Ummmm - but in the future, I would NOT write to two inmates at the same facility again. I don't want to create stress for my penpals.)

K
