Default Lock-downs

Hello Everyone,
I just had one of my PP mother call me (Was surprised at that since I have not even met him yet) to say the facility was on lock-down. How long are Federal lock-downs? How can you check to see when its un-locked (?)

The lock-downs do not have a set period of time. There are many reasons for a lock down to occur.

For instance, when they go through the shakedown process (where they inspect all the cells) the lock downs basically last until they are done.

In the event there has been situation with in the prison to cause a lock down(fights, riots,an attempt to escape, a civilian getting hurt and so on...) the lockdown will remain in effect until they (the prison officials) find it safe to go back to business as normal.

You can always check the status of the prison by calling the facility and they will let you know if they are currently on lockdown. I am afraid they will not give you much more info than that.

I hope I have helped.

Also, if you plan to visit, I always call prior to leaving for my visits to check the prison status. If a lockdown occurs visits are usually suspended.

Thanks Skye,
But what if you have to fly there? You leave and get there and what? I think I know the answer (
so you just call the main number of the prison? Do they get mail or get to send mail?

I have to fly, and I always call before my flight leaves and I call when I land, and I call on the way to prison.

I know that sounds a bit nutso but I would hate to get all the way to the prison and be turned away.

Unfortunately it's a gamble. In most cases they do not have visitation during lockdown.

They can still send and rec'v mail during lockdown. However, if they run out of pens, paper, stamps, etc... they may not be able to write until after the lockdown. This is because the 'canteen'/'store' is usually closed during this process.

Hi Skye,
Thanks, I am a bit rusty having been away from it all for a minute , do not remember lock-downs at all during the times of past. And never dealt with Feds. Now my next question since I have your attention ),,,What do you think about his mother calling me? I am kind of feeling a little jittery inside about that. I just started this thing about 2-3 weeks ago and already 8 -10 page letters, many cards,,,yes I was suckered (maybe not) into giving my number and then,,, His Mama calls?? My old head says I need to pump his brakes,,the little girl in me says "throw caution to the wind",,sheesh. I only choose 6 and all six are slowly but I can tell surely going towards that domain of,,,,,even though every last one of their ads emphasized friendship. One told me Love is Friendship set on fire and right now he has a gas can in his hands,,,ouch! Another set of news on my end I seem to have "affection" for all 6. And to think I use to rag on polygamists.
Signed, a future polyandrist (teehee)

Hey There!!!

I don't think it's too abnormal for the Mum to call. Before I met my sweetie face to face his family emailed me and called me. We are all now quite close.

If he is like my fella and close to his Mum he probably told her your info incase something like this occured.

Here is a perfect example..

Junior's Mum asked me to schedule her visit. I tend to be able to always get her the best time slots . So today I called the unit and made her visit. AT that time, he was there, and hour later he was enroute to his hold over location.

The warden's office called me and told me he was being moved. I inturn called her.

In addition, when he got sick the other inmates were comfortable writing me about his condition. When they did, and I found out what was going on, I told her. The prison never contacted the family.

So there are many reasons why he could have done so.

I would proceed with caution. It seems like you have a good pal

Skye

Hey Wobabi you should appreciate the communication with his mom. I wish my guy would give my number to his mom that way I would know if anything was wrong since he can't call me collect.

Hi Wobabi,
I can't offer any advice on lockdowns, but I do think that it would be flattering to get a nice call from his mom. We have seen where some moms are not so nice. So, that is a good sign. :-)
As far as warm feelings from all your new PPs, I'm sure that they can't help themselves. Anyone would enjoy the attention and nice letters from a nice lady. I hope it never becomes a problem for you. I'm sure that your heart is big enough to love all six. :-)
Happy writing!

Hello Everyone,
Thanks for all the responses. Well his Mom really did not "communicate" with me so to speak. It was like "Hi , this is X's mother and He told me to call you and let you know,,," So I thanked her but it was an odd bit of silence and then she was gone. She is probably thinking"This boy got me calling some girl from the net, what next?". But then again maybe its me,,cause it seems like from what I can tell,,, Momma's are the ones posting these ads(?) for some. And for good reason with most,,,gives them a break ,LOL.

My Pen Pal's Mom called me after she had a visit with her daughter. Pen Pal told her all about me and I thnk Mom just decided she would check me out and make sure my intentions were honourable...so to speak....she seemed to leave happy and I haven't heard from her again.
