Question Library in jail ?

Hello,

Well, my question may sound stupid .but hey I'm a.

See, I want to send books to my pps and since one of them is a "heavy reader" (he reads about 2 hours each day), I was wondering if there are libraries inside walls they have access to ?

Because in France, they do have libraries - so I'd like to order him books he hasn't been able to read yet, but since he reads so much - well I'm pretty sure there's one at his facility. But maybe they don't have the newest books yet ?

Well, the more I write, the more I feel stupid LOL

To ask questions is never stupid, silly. lol

I don't know if it's true for every prison. But as far I know, yes, they have libraries there. I know that John can only have a certain amount of books in his cell as his own property... mostly text books for his college classes. I sent him some books a while ago, he read them and gave them to the library, so others could read them as well. This way he could keep the needed text books.
But I also know that inmates trade books from time to time (again mostly text books for college).

All prisons have a library as far as I know. Not all prisons have a place to sit and read, they have to have a place to study law a small area.

Most of the books are donated books, law books have to be updated or current, per state and federal law. Most of even in the mens prison are mostly romance books.

Like any library in the free world it operates on the same concept as any library, they can check out some books to take to cell. If you do not return the book you are charged for it, whatever the books worth to replace it. Plus a ticket for destruction of state property, a conduct report.

If a book is sent to an imate thru Amazon or Barnes and Noble, it is his property, or he/she can also donate it to the library.
Depending on the institution the inmate has to place his name and inmate number in the book. If you donate that book to the library the prison stamps it, and the imates name and inmates number is taken off the book.

All my pps have access to a library. From what I hear the books are old and sometimes missing pages.

true pages are missing from the older books, and legal books have to be current. Not like they have access to all the best sellers out. lol

Cool - I just got on the Amazon section : best books of the year, so they probably don't have the newest ones - now of course, I have to choose..

I was thinking to choose ones I want to read myself so that I can order them for me as well (through the French Amazon website because I won't pay for the Int'l delivery LOL) and we can shere our feelings about the book (well he reads 3 hour a day so I'll have to be faster LOL)
