| Ok i would love to write a prison inmate i love writing letters everyone makes mistakes in life i'm not one to judge but i live with my mother and she is totally against me writing a prisoner, which i live in her house so i have to respect her rules. I don't have a P.O box and i'm currently unemployed it's hard to get a job around here but my question is what do you guys think i should do?Wait to get P.O box?which might be a year or two from now who knows. |

| You live with your mother so it would be disrespecting her if you sneak around and let an inmate write to Her adress. If you respect your mother which i think you do you will wait till she says its ok or till you get a po box. |

| PO Boxes are not very expensive. I think mine is only $18 for 6 months. Can you just scrape that up? Then maybe before you need to renew it you will be working and it will be easier. But generally the smallest box is only $18 or under.

| Hello Chicana, I don't know what age you have, but due to the fact that you still live with your mother, i guess you are still very young, also because you refer to the fact that a PO box will take naother 2 years before you can have it. I admire the fact of your desire for writing to inmates, it is a nobel thing to do, but I would wait till you have the proper age to take your own decisions, and avoid any conflichts with your mother, it is so much easier. It would be no good, if you would start writing to somebody in all secrecy, that you on a later would have to stop writing to this person, because your mum did find out about you writing him or her. It would be painfull for you, and the person you would writing to. Anyhow I would stick to the idea in 2 years time there are a lot of people waiting out there to receive letters. Mick |

| I gather your young as well i think i would wait your right it would be disrespectful to use her address to write a prisoner and may cause problems between you and your mother and she may also feel very unsafe knowing an inmate has her home address there is plenty of time mr angel is right ...i think deep down you already know that you just needed confermation

| I agree with the abovt posters. I would try and save for a po box if you can. Or maybe try and discuss the issue with your mother a bit more. Is she totally against the ldea? Or just against you writing to a certain type of person/someone who is in for a certain crime? Does she know that on this site you can see what they have done, and then decide if you wish to write to them? There are people who are in for all sorts of things - not just murder etc.. Maybe if you try and sit and talk with her for a while - (show her this website?) then she may understand a bit more about what you want to do. I know my family thought it was a bit strange at first, but now they accept it's what I do. |

| I think you must be over age 18, but if not, please do not write to an inmate. They can get into trouble for communicating with someone underage. That being said, I would think about it a bit more before making your decision. Is any of what your mom said about it reasonable? I think it would be disrespectful to use an address when everyone else in the house didn't feel comfortable with inmate mail coming there. A PO Box is inexpensive, and imagine all the money you'll spend on stamps (it's a lot!) so if you intend to write you should be able to come up with that. Keep in mind writing a penpal is kind of a big commitment, not something to do on a whim. Many inmates have no contact with family or friends and are desperate for human contact.. becoming a friend and then abandoning them could have devastating consequences. Just wanted to point out some things to think about.. best of luck on whatever decision you make. |

| I'm of age to make my own decisions 19 to be exact, it won't exactly take me 2 years it's just hard where i live to get a job but their opening up new things everyday i respect my mother's wishes so i'll wait until i have money to get a P.O Box. Quote:
